WMAQ TV in Chicago is reporting that a major fire at a hotel in surburan Lockport has shut down all inbound METRA service to Chicago Tuesday morning. There is no word on how long the service will be suspended. Lockport is 25 miles southwest of Chicago.
The Metra service that is/was affected is the Metra Heritage Coridor. Lockport is the next to last stop and Metra was unable to move trains from the yard in Joliet around the fire. The fire itself was directly accross the street from the tracks in downtown Lockport. Trains were also blocked by hoses that had been laid accross the tracks.

Metra’s website has since stated that the tracks are now clear and a passenger extra was run to pick up any stranded passengers.
