Firefox and activating links

Could someone explain how to “activate” a copy and pasted link? I am using Firefox 16. Not that savy w/ these PCs.

Never seemed to have trouble using IE7/8 and posting pics from photobucket.

Highlight th link by holding sown the shift key and moving your cursor over it. Then go th top under edit and click copy. To to where yu want to paste it and under eidt at the top hit paste. It will paste their.

Thanks I’ll give it a try

LION does not know what you mean by “activate a link.”

I assumed you wanted to make a link active in this forum. First highlight the words that you want to be the link, then click the LINK ICON above (looks like a chain) and on the top line of the box that appears enter the URL of the location that you want people to see.

I generally copy the link from whatever site I wanted to show you and paste it in that place. That place already shows the text that you had highlighted above, but will be replaced by the URL that you copied to your clipboard.

If you know HTML you can edit directly in this window, but I never bother.

See, here is a link entitled “NOTICE” it will take you to a different site (that also has LIONS on it.)

Just pasting the link as I did above does not work, but if you highlight it and click the LINK ICON it will work since that text is already in the box.

Bog,

It’s fairly simple and I’ll use this thread as the example:

  1. Copy the URL (web address) of the web page you want to link to
  2. In your post text box, highlight the text that you want to be your link with your mouse - In this case we’ll make “Firefox and activating links” the text and it will look like this when highlighted: Firefox and activate links
  3. The Insert/edit link icon up in your text box tool bar (looks like a 3-link chain) will become visible
  4. Click on the Insert/edit link icon and insert your link’s URL in the Link URL text box - You’ll need to clear the text in the box before inserting the URL. I usually just highlight the text then paste the URL into the text box.
  5. Click the Insert button and your text is now a link

Here’s using the Firefox and activate links text as your link.

Here’s using the URL itself: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/212946.aspx

For the latter: Paste the URL in your text box, highlight it, and click on the Insert/edit link icon. Since the URL will now show up in the Link URL text box, you don’t need to change anything. Just click Insert and you’re done. The URL is now a link in the body of your post.
