First CN C41-8 in new paint appears

The first CN C41-8 locomotive appears in new paint outside IC’s Centralia Shops. These locomotives were originally built for the C&NW.

“New” CN C41-8

Not bad at all. Any locomotive looks good in fresh paint, it just seems odd to see all of these GE’s on what used to be a GP9 railroad.

That was sure a quick repaint! It’s nice to see these in CN paint, I like it an aweful lot more than the UP paint any day.

It is rather odd though to see a standard cab GE decorated for CN, seeing as all their Dash 8’s were the “Draper Taper” C40-8M variant. While I thought they were pretty neat, I do like the look of the GE standard cab, especially in bright CN red.

Did CN repaint any of the former LMS CR-blue C40-8Ws they acquired several years ago into standard CN colors?

Not that I know of. That would cut into shareholder value. [;)] Although now that EHH has retired, things might be changing over there. They sure did get that one C41-8 repainted quick.

CN does not own the 12 former LMS C40-8’s. The units have been on long term lease which is to expire in 2012 and have been since being renumbered into the IC 2400 series. When the lease comes due in 2012 and if they are offered to CN at a discount price like the former 35 UP C41-8’s you just may see some them repainted into CN colours as well.

CN 8818, 2127 and BCOL4614 were spotted west bound at Portage la Prairie, MB on the Rivers Sub at 5:57PM on July 8, 2010. It was a surprise to this this different locomotive on Cn. Too bad but we were out of position to get any really good photos.
