First Lady Michelle Obama to visit Kansas City Southern

To KCS Employees in Shreveport: Call in sick on Monday.

Who cares?

Mr. Benham-

Your comment is ignorant and offensive. Keep your politics to yourself and comment about trains. Recognizing KCS’s efforts on veterans is commendable, no matter who the president or first lady happens to be. Get a grip.

Not to detract from the veterans, but if they already have special skills, then why do they need taxpayer bought and paid for training? This is nothing more than double speak from the media. The government can’t get them jobs unless the government first takes jobs away from other working people. Only the private sector can create jobs in order to give them jobs. Based on the current economic situation, there is very little need for the creation of jobs in the private sector.

The First Marxist and her Saul Alinsky trained husband need to go back to “teaching” in Chicago and stay out of a job where both of them clearly don’t have a clue. Better yet, give both of them jobs at that university under the condition they both don’t show up to give lectures or attempt to teach.

Kudos for her efforts!
Its a win win for railroads who need good people and good people who need good paying jobs!

Kudos to The First Lady. Not only does it look good for vets…but also for the rail industry. Like Ms. Wheeler said.win win situation. I am Republican and I wish i was there. I don’t agree with Obama on a lot of things but I do agree with this. We have a very active first lady… unlike our prior presidents.

KCS should be proud to have her visit.

Mr. Benham- your comment is a disgrace to the American Flag, a insult to the vets, and dark cloud on the KCS staff. Mrs. Obama is one of the most active first ladys we have had in decades helping out all sorts of causes. You may not like democrats but one must give kudos to how active she is in trying to help.

Finaly to Mr. Guse, yes private sector does create jobs…the private sector also has cost us thousands upon thousands of jobs. In order for your business in the free market to make more profit to satisfy the money hungry investors and the greedy American desire to have more for less…they move OUR jobs overseas. So don’t blame the gov. OH and your wrong… the Gov CAN create jobs without cost to private sector. Please review your history.

Do you really think a vet can leave a battlefield and immediately take over as a yardmaster, or most any other position? Yes, training is necessary! I have a friend who commanded a tank battalion in Afghanistan who has just been hired (not by KCS) … He has some great skills, but needs some… want to call it ‘orientation’ instead of training?.. fine by me. These funds help secure a good job for some good people. Why do you have a problem with ‘training’? What position can you enter without training for it?

Railroads have found hiring operating people from the military is good business. They are used to following directions. This has very little to do with this government program. Just another attempt for government politicians to take credit for something positive that happend.

It is amazing how many people apparently cruise news sites to look for opportunities to make up rude and unkind things to say about other people. What a sad life that must be. I pity you. This is a RR site. Go whine elsewhere.

I agree that this should be about a good, profitable, and tax-paying business getting some good workers who need the work after their service to our country. If they just stayed in the military because they didn’t think they could get jobs in the private sector, they would cost us taxpayers even more. Now, a small investment in training converts these ex-servicemen to taxpaying citizens while helping a business continue to earn profits and likewise pay taxes.

What nanny state program is she going to unveil now?Peter Benham’s remarks are right on the mark.Let it be noted that she is NIETHER UNELECTED OR UNACCOUNTABLE TO KNOW

Where’s the moderator for these comments. I thought I was reading a script page from the Druggie Limbaugh Show.
These comments should be about RR’s, trains etc.
Enough of this conservative right-wing bull CRAP!

These comments show the great and sad division we have
in our country. A rather stright Trains report as to n Obama
and the KCS renders the typical negative comments. Better
they should have a tea party with cookies.

After my four-years of active military duty I was really grateful to be hired by a private employer and to get my GI educational ad home loan benefits. Maybe that’s why I see a lot of value in this program. Good on KCS and thumbs up for the training. I wonder how many of the naysayers here ever served in the military? That’s okay, but where’s your appreciation, at least, for our vets’ service? And about railroading… I had some very welcoming rides while in uniform - on the Santa Fe, PRR, Boston & Maine, New Haven, and some other roads, too. But it seems attitudes have changed.

Mr. Benham must be a Republican. What’s wrong with hiring vets after giving so much for their country.

You won’t have to lay off that day–you really think KCS crews will be pounding the lead and switching hazmat tanks adjacent to the First Lady?
