First Nations block CN, VIA Rail line in Ontario

If the RCMP did start shooting, they could retaliate by fire bombing a locomotive.

So was it just a good day to stop a train?

The protest was for an enquiry into missing and murdered First Nation women. It is a popular spot for First Nation protests.

RICHARD M SKELTON from said: Dare say if the RCMP did start shooting the odd one they would protestoff the rails and highways! Submitted: 3/20/2014 3:50:48 PM (CST) RCMP does not operate in Ontario. Of course if you had a police force known as OPP(opie).

Certainly isn’t the 19th Century. In the 19th century the government, US or Canadian, would have thought nothing of just shooting them. Thank God that is no longer true.

Why punish the private enterprise? If the first nations want to protest, they should block military base entrances, government office buildings, etc. That’s where they’d get their message across effectively.

First Nations needs to be reminded this is not the 19th century.

Arrest them for trespassing but don’t put them in a nice cozy jail. Put them in a pen outside and leave them outside for 48 hours. Weather there is cold enough to be a good disincentive for repeat offenses.

Just arrest them for trespassing and lock them up.

Dare say if the RCMP did start shooting the odd one they would protest off the rails and highways!

What good does it do to have a non-railroad related protest on a railroad? Do it at Ontario’s government offices where it’s more appropriate and where the news media cameras can get at you more easily.

This is by no means the first time that rail service at this location on Canada’s busiest main line has been disrupted by the same group of people. The fact that the issue they are complaining about has nothing to do with railroads doesn’t seen to bother them. They seem to have an obsessive dislike of railroads. Incidentally the Mohawk originally came from New York state, and if they all decided to return there I think 99% of Canadians would be grateful.

If the illegal-alien land-bridgers got jobs they wouldn’t have time for this silliness. More welfare won’t work.

This is one example sign that VIA Rail will fold up sometime in the future the way the current Canadian federal government is treating this crown corporation by not reconciling train passengers to use another nearby alternative rail route. Furthermore Canada is in a crisis where the Quebec separatist government is calling for an election for majority rule so they can break up Canada if they win a referendum for independence.

If anyone wants some insight into the protest, which may well re-occur, try:

The present, conservative government has been seen as hostile by most aboriginal groups, and a great many disputes over environmental degradation and other issues are intense.

Some comments seem to be advocating a somewhat violent approach - like putting yet more people in jail. Canada has had a more peaceful approach to the ethnic cleansing of aboriginals and takeovers of land. Not very honourable (Canadian spelling), as land under direct aboriginal control is a long way below their proportion of the population, but courts are helping to restore some of the balance. One recent book comparing US and Canadian approaches is by Jill St.Germain on Indian Treaty Making Policy…

The ignorant folks who suggest shooting or caging the protesters don’t even know what their grievance is. First nation women have been disappearing with no trace for years and the national, provincial government has done very little to solve the crimes. These people may be First Nationals but they are second class in the eyes of the government. Just as it is here in the US.

Mr. Skelton, google the name Dudley George sometime. While I don’t condone the fact that there seems to be two laws, I don’t condone shooting protesters. We did that once, it didn’t work out well.
