$2,564,000 a piece? Really?
Yes 2.56 Million Canadian. I am sure there are liability BS included in that price. I often wonder, in articles as these, what the life expectancy is, and IF the rail product ever actually makes it in normal use.
$2.5M per car isn’t too bad considering that they are all-new. R160s in NYC are about half that, but the TA ordered almost 4X as many. I’m sure STM will get a price break when they start to replace the MR-73s and order more. The MR-63s they are replacing were ordered in 1963 and went into service when the system opened in '66. Those cars were built by Canadian Vickers. I don’t know if the Bombardier MR-73s, built for a 1976 system expansion, will last as long.
If anyone cares, the Youville Shops were built by the Montreal Tramways Co at that company’s formation in 1911 …
