First new Talgo train leaves Milwaukee plant

Should the trainset fail the testing in Pueblo, then it could be christened the Scott Walker.

Good gosh industrial design is truly dead. This has to be the worst looking locomotive ever conceived.

One “butt ugly” cab car. You would think the designers could have come up with a better design and still meet safety requirements!

I wonder when this train might pass through Galesburg.

That Talgo cab unit is UGLY. With the shade arrangement in the photo it resembles some cockeyed cartoon character.

Ugly! Looks like a platipus. whats next, a manitee express?

I am really excited to see that the Oregon sets of the Talgo trains are getting ready for service. I must admit that the cab units aren’t exactly complimentary to the sleekness of the train. There must be a reason for them looking so bad.

How can Amtrak spare six revenue cars at this time of the year?

I am in agreement about how ugly that trainset is, but glad it was built by American workers in America.

I can’t decide if it’s so ugly only a mother could love it, or if it’s so ugly it’s beautiful. They forgot you just can’t hide “ugly”!

Far too much health & safety intervention here. What an absolute monstrosity. Good job these people had nothing to do with the Boeing Dreamliner. Can you imagine what that would have looked like if they had? And would it ever have got off the ground?!

When will they pass through Colorado?

When will they pass through Colorado?

No character , no style, just any ugly power unit. As I understand this was selected from several plywood mock ups. What were they thinking–Talgo you can do better.

This magazine’s own article explained the front of the cab very well, done for purposes of safety and, more importantly, visibility. Most of today’s newest cars look great, but with sloped front and rear windows, and massive pillars, visibility is horrible. Maybe we can get the Wisconsin set on proposed commuter rail in Jackson County, Missouri. Wisconsin will be paying up on these, sooner or later, so they may be cheap!

Really? Who cares what it looks like. It is a move forward for passenger rail in the U.S. And if you want to lay blame, put it on the people in this country who helped design based on Amtrak requirements for a second seat for a student engineer.

That has to be the ugliest locomotive I’ve ever seen.
