First Pics of my Layout

I have a 22’ x 22’ square layout. So far, I have laid the double main tracks with two sidings. The rest will come in stages after I get the ballasting done, which started last week.

Here are some pics with my first attempt at ballasting. I am getting better as I go! BNSF #882 is my sound unit I just got…man, do I love this loco!

looks very nice! i wish i had as much space as you do there. i wish you luck with your layout!

Looks great! I’m about to start laying track myself, can’t wait til I can actually run a train.

ALRIGHT!. Love the pics, Love the progress. Love the space. Keep us posted. All you need is a steam engine to be perfect.

I was told to wait and ballast the layout AFTER your scenery is done. You might want to hold off on ballasting the rest of the layout.

Very nice work. Looks like you might have a helper in there with you to!

Keep us posted, i.e. MORE picture!

I was looking at Usersatch’s photos and got to thinking, is there an accepted theory on grain direction of plywood when laying long sections as in the photos? For example, when doing an around-the-walls type layout with long 2’ by x’ runs, should the grain go with the length or across it?

Thanks
Barry

usersatch, great progress.

You might peek at the following thread on track ballasting and weathering.

It has some great tips and techniques.

Regards and good luck.

Great use of space.
