This is my first train forum and would like to learn about the area I grew up in and around Rochester NY, and Newark NY 1974-1985. If anybody has any photos of those areas I would love it…is it OK to share photos here. My interests are Conrail, Lehigh Valley, EL, NYC, PC, D&H…well pretty much any north east railroads. Heres a pic of where I found my love of the railroads. Newark NY on the old NYC Chicago line
Welcome [#welcome] to the forum, CONRAIL-KID. I’m sure that those who know your area will be looking forward to any information, as well as pictures, you share with us.

Welcome to the mayhem, Conrail Kid…good place for you to start is your library as there are almost a hundred books on the railroads and geography you have outlined. You indicated Rochester-Newark as you neighborhood, so I would also guide you to the railroad museum at Industry as well as the local NRHS chapter as well as the ones in Syraucse, Cornel-Ithaca, BInghamton, and Elmira; there are quite a few non NRHS groups as well as model clubs, too.; Visit your local railroad hobby shops for details, subscribe to or buy TRAINS and CLASSIC TRAINS and other rail fan oriented magazine (check you hobby store, store at Industry, among others). Also indiividual historical societies for each of the railroads you have named…GOOGLE or Bing them. There are lots of things out here for you, you can pick and choose as you like!
Thanks for the welcome and the great info. Unfortunatley I havent lived in the Rochester area since 1985 and now live in Hollister Ca, where if I’m lucky I see one Union Pacific train switching cars at our local cannery a week. My area is void of any good railfanning areas.
As for D&H photographs, check out my Delaware and Hudson Virtual Museum (DHVM) website. I have been helping create a environment to host several peoples D&H photographs under a single website. I have not worked on the site in awhile so there are many photographs yet to be processed; but, there are 3,700+ images currently on the site that you might find several of interest.
