The first of a pair of new trestles replacing the old American River trestle should be finished sometime on Tuesday March 27th, five days ahead of estimates. All track is in place and the first loads of ballast were dumped shortly after dusk on Sunday. Work on second trestle is also progressing rapidly.
You might have more recent information than is on the UP’s web site. They list various completion statistics for seperate components of the work, but are projecting March 30th as completion for track 1 and April 22nd for track 2.
Regardless, it is apparent this was a full court press.
…Sure seems like that department of UP RR knows how to get things moving expecially under these emergency conditions.
Reports from California railfans suggest that the first track is now open. There should be pictoral confirmation later today.
Update - first revenue trains started crossing bridge number 1, shortly after 1 AM March 27th. This is an Outstanding job by the UP’s B&B gangs and Dobbas Const. Co.
