First Walthers order and kit

Received my first order from Walthers today. Got a bunch of GP-40 detail parts, some KD whiskers and a Cornerstone building kit. Order arrived in exactly one week. Everything was in stock and packed very well. Shipping was $7 on a $40 order. I would have wasted a lot more than $7 in gas driving around to get these items.
I got the Merchants RowIII kit.

I have to tell you how impressed I am with this kit! $15 on sale. I was expecting something like a DPM kit where you get 4 walls and a roof with all the details and windows molded on. NOT!!
This kit has over 160 parts! Even the decorative brick work are separate pieces. Windows and doors are separate and it has all separate molded glass for the windows. Not just a sheet of clear acetate. Came with enough signs and decals to do a small city. Telephone poles with lights, stop sign and some REALLY nice sidewalk castings. I’ve got to figure out a way to make some castings of these sidewalks before I install them. I don’t know if Walthers sells these exact sidewalks separately. I will definitely be buying more of this type of kit!
[tup][tup]Walthers!

Thanks for posting this lother, I looked at what you had ordered and liked what I saw and I’ll be danged if I didn’t order me one too! Now all I have to do is find a place to put it on the layout. Thanks again. Mike

I have always had good service from Walthers even on backordered items and when I’ve had to return items. Their staff have been polite and knowledgeable and the service quick.

Also…for the most part I have been satisfied with their own line of products and building kits (I have a number of them) even the “Gold Line” of snap-togethers. As a matter of fact, these go together very quickly with very little fitting and look good to boot.

This reminds me…I should order that track cleaning car that is on sale this month, before the month runs out.

Prices in the Nov. sales ad are good until Dec 31 07. I think I’ll be stocking up on some more buildings for Christmas. I’m gonna need about 25 for my city scene. I know some other company made these Merchants Row kits but I can’t remember who it was. They have a web site that I used to have book marked. They sold a bunch of interior detail sets for most of their structures.
(that ring a bell with anyone?)

I have been ordering direct from them for years. I always look for what’s on sale , you can get some real bargains sometimes. Just got a bag of the 148 whiskers myself. 25 pair should last me a while.[:D] Casting those should be hard at all lothar , you could just press them into some modeling clay ,(steal it from the kids) pour plaster or resin in a voila , you have copies.! (resin might stick to the clay though.)

GAPPLEG- I’ll probably go with RTV molds and resin. I might try plaster but these things are about 1/16" thin. Probably just end up breaking plaster castings. The trick will be getting the molds REAL flat. For as many as I need I’d still be ahead if I bought that Micro Mark casting kit.

Glad to hear, man. I just got a $100 gift certificate from them for my birthday and just ordered (unfortunately by phone since you can’t use their gift certificates by web/internet). Wow, they were SOOO nice. They even told me that if I spent over $100 (I had planned to spend $91 and leave the $9 extra for shipping) that the shipping was only $1.99! Cool, eh, of them to save me some of my hobby dollars! So instead of spending 9% of my gift certificate on shipping, I spend only 3% extra… what a class act. Anyway, the only structure I got, loathar, was…

I also got a bunch of tools and small stuff… I am looking forward to the order arriving!

That’s a nice looking kit Loathar. For the money, I don’t see how you could do better. Too bad I don’t need anymore buildings of that style.[:(] I may need to get on their emailing list.

I was shocked at the quality for $15. I’m definately going to get Merchants Row I and II now. I know they are all made by the same company. I wish I could remember who made them.

loathar,

The other company that made a merchants row was Magnuson… (now scale structures, Ltd).

Brian

Thanks Brian! That was it. They have some nice buildings and details on their site.

Thats what I use of course , Didn’t know if you wanted to go that route. , but I find all kinds of things I want copies of and the Micro Mark mold and resin lets me do that. have fun !![8D]

I’ve been buying direct from Walthers/THS for over 20 years. Great place !! One thing I like to do on their website is put things I’m interested in possibly getting in my “Wish List” and then check on them every so often - sometimes things go on sale for a short time that don’t get listed in the paper flyers they send out.

BTW I think if you order $125 of stuff at once, they pay the shipping, so it’s good to save up and order a lot of stuff at once. [:)]

That looks like a beautiful kit!

This is news to me! I didn’t think individuals could order direct from Walthers. I thought they only supplied the LHS? If I can order direct from Walthers it will save me driving an hour to the nearest city to deal with the less than helpful guy at the hobby shop there. The lack of customer service I have received from the LHS is reason enough to stop driving all that way to help him further his own goals. What is the scoop on this direct from Walthers thing? Im in Canada. Will they ship to me?

BTW, I am new here. Hi everybody. [:)]

Welcome, Blue!!! Yeah, ordering direct from walthers is easy and great! Saves on hassle sometimes, although the prices may be a bit high (my LHS sometimes gives a deal). Anyway, nice to see you here! Ask away, since we are here to help…

Brian

Thanks for the warm welcome! Looking forward to learning lots from you guys. Now to hit the Walthers site to dream and drool! [8D]

[#welcome] Another CPR fan! The Walthers search engine is a little quirky. There’s an advanced search feature that works a little better. You can sign up for a sales flyer they mail about every two months. They have some good deals in that.

Thanks for the heads up on the search and flyers. I’ll look into that for sure!

I ordered this one: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/5-3171

I was holding off buying a turntable since I model the modern era, but I still needed a way to turn my engines when running in single-unit mode. So at the sale price, this deal was just too good to pass up!

I think I’m gonna order that TT too. Price is good through the end of the year and they said they had over 500 in stock. Some folks said they had problems with the pit being warped but I’m hoping they fixed that in this new run. I can’t afford $250 for the RTR version.
