fish eyes

I just finished building a turntable and started painting it. The finish has quite a few very small fish eyes in it. I think I know the source, but am not sure how to proceed from here. Will I need to sand, wash, etc before recoating?

Thanks

Eventually,

You’ll get an answer…naw just kidding. Main cause of fish eyes…cleaning… the piece was not throughly prepped before painting. There was some oily spots on the surface, could have even been Your own finger prints. You don’t mention how You painted it…air brush, spray can or brush, but a lot of times, if You let the paint cure…not just dry, give it one more coat and see if it bridges the eye, if it does not, a third will not fix it either, best to start over. Here is a link to some painting tips and causes of paint problems…good things to know!

Good Luck!

Fish eye happened to me once.

I’m pretty sure it was because I didn’t fully rinse off the detergent/water and left a film. There is also a slight possibility it was something in our normally perfect tap water, causing me to consider doing the rinse with distilled water.

In this case, I was lucky that I had a surface that I could sand down and repaint.
