Fixing up a three story stucture after U.S. ICE

Howdy!

Do any of you find that, when added a nice structure or some new scenery to a layout, some of the older pieces just don’t measure up anymore?

That’s what happened when I “planted” the Gaines Cannery this weekend. The look of it was really was a notch above the 3 story building that was behind it and the road and landscaping to the left of it. So I added a story to the old factory after U.S. ICE on 8 Mile.

Even though the quality of the top floor (IHC) is much different than that of the original kit, I painted the top floor of the original white to match the addition. That seemed to disguise the differences in the buildings somewhat.

I’m pretty happy with the roof details and lighting on this one.

It was also my most detailed foray into interiors.

CHEERS!

I don’t see what the problem is. Anytime you put in something new, it’s going to effect the appearance of anything around it. As far as the different colored sections of the building go, it looks like some down here. We have some new buildings next to old buildings that were constructed back in the early 1900’s. That doesn’t make the old buildings any less useful, it just changes the view of the landscape a bit. We also have many buildings that have new additions on them, some with radically different styles. This just gives them character. After a while the new building becomes part of the scene and nobody really notices it anymore.

I think you have done a good job of modeling a older building that has been added onto and changed many times over the years…Nice…Cox 47
