I took these pics today at the Coburn crossing. i walked up about a mile to the bend and saw these. They look like they would be easy to model.
Interesting.
I know I saw an short article about modeling these years ago iin one of the mags. Basically, you have it covered, except maybe a shot showing the grease reservoir cover on and it setting near to the tracks.
The one thing different is the soaker mat down the middle, no doubt to help keep the environmental negatives a bit better under control than in the past. So if you model a modern greaser, you better have your mat down before you get written up by the model EPA.

Hows this.
The Nevada Northern had one on each leg of the wye at Ruth, NV. They are similar to the ones in the Walthers Catalog. (Details West?)

Saw one when I was railfanning Tehachapi 40+ years ago. It was a single, on the outside rail only.
If you are modeling one, remember that the rail “downstream” of the greaser will be crusted with caked grunge, almost completely so at the greaser, slowly tapering off to zero several hundred yards down the track. On the Tehachapi loop the greaser was on single track, so the grunge trailed off in both directions.
An interesting feature, probably peculiar to SP flange greasers in that era, was the bright blue Richfield Oil Company drum standing next to the reservoir box. It was labeled, “CURVE GREASE.”

I had an odd night out with a gang maintaining these things recently. The old ones certainly did leave a downstream trail of black goo. They were filthy! the new ones are digitised [:O] they count axles approaching, note speed (and maybe weight) and squirt from extremely small nozzles. The lubricant is environmentally friendly and designed so that it spreads on the rail over set distances depending on the traffic. The actual frequency of squirt is controlled in connection with the number and speed of axles.
In fact the new things are so clean that I had been walking by them without realising that they were what they are.
Oh yes… and the digital bit is solar powered…
I have to say that I am concerned by the idea of you walking out along the track. This should only be done where essential by trained personnel with knowledge of the risks and how to manage them. I’m not being a misery… i want to continue to enjoy your psots… not hear of your funeral.
