HI there folks It most certainly has been a long time since I was last on the Trains forums! So…I just thought I would make my presence known by starting the July edition of the good ole’ Flat Wheel Cafe.
I see Paula is still whipping up some good old country cooking in here! That’s the best. Food is always good.
I’ll tell ya what when you work the railroad 24/7 it honestly is very hard to get free time to get other things done. It’s all good though…at least I get to" railfan" and make money at the same time. hehehehehe
Good morning, everyone, and especially Sarah! Sarah, thank you for starting our new month off for us. It’s good to see you back in here. Here in Louisville this morning, we have a very nice, cool 63 degrees at 6:44. When I woke up at 5, it was 65 degrees. Going for a very pleasant 83 degrees for our high today. Humidity will start creeping back in tomorrow.
The coffee is freshly made, and ready to go. As are the juices and other morning beverages. On the serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, made-from-scratch brownies (that I made yesterday afternoon), and we have turkey bacon, sausage links & patties (pork, of course), scrambled eggs, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits & sausage gravy.
I believe we got everything moved, and set up, including the train layouts. But you guys and gals may want to check and make sure everything is A-Okay!
Sarah, guess you’ll be heading back out later on this afternoon/evening, right?
Everyone have a great morning, and I’ll see you all after a bit. Take care.
Always good to hear from you Sarah. Barbara is in Rochester MN for a tuneup. Last night I was invited to the “Big Cookout”: at the Housing Authority" I hear the Sloan Brothers has sweet corn, so I’ll drive over to New Boston to buy some. Tonight is the Farmers Market here in Aledo. The tomatoes are ripe. (Not mine though.) Everyone have a save & sane holiday.
… Dave Letterman says he is looking forward to three days of responsible drinking. LOL
At the risk of offending some folks here on the forum, I will give this a big [tup]. But then I’m biased, as I have a brother-in-law and a sister (not married to each other) that work there.
chores in town done and errands run.Csx was moving the tonka toys and the trains.Cw and Sarah thanks for breakfast. We have another restaurant that has decided to open up by FC here in Defiance.Going to have to check it out.Tonight is Friday!!
Guess I’ve found the new place. We are having another sunny, cooler day here. Low humidity…! For Indiana, in this season, that is unusual. noted on local news yesterday we had a reading of 29%. For here…That is low.
Glad to see Sarah is back working…I sure hope things in general, are picking up. Right now we are hearing so much negative talk about a “double dip” on the recession…That would really be a super bummer.
Back a few months ago, I really thought we were feeling many areas of the economy starting to recover, if we go back down again…That will really be a negative for so many people…and the country as a whole.
Perhaps we’ve still a chance to reform, and start to see increases again. Sure hope so.
Sarah - welcome back! Always nice to see old/new faces in here!
Joe - we found some NS coal gons on a JHMX train headed to Georgia eventually. We had never seen the NS gons on any of our coal trains before this morning. Not sure if they are running much south out of here yet or not. Flooding has been a big issue down in the corner where the Missouri went on a tantrum.
Q - I was thinking the same thing - we were just seeing a teeny recovery and now it may all blow up again. We have an old, unused fall out shelter just across the street from us in the park (from the 50’s). I may go there and pull that proverbial lid over my head.
Bob - hope your wife is ok. Doctors are working overtime right now, it seems. I have a stack of “routine” bills to pay for us.
Houston Ed is getting wet - not sure if it is water or oil or a mix. Driver said they got 12 inches in the area - either way it is too much of anything.
CW - early supper on the porch - I love the rockers out there - [^]
Mookie, it is a great evening to sit out in the rockers!! And I’ve just finished putting supper off the grill, and onto the serving station. Tonight’s menu:
Grilled chicken, grilled burgers/cheese burgers, hot dogs, brats, and the side dishes are: pork and beans, mac & cheese, grilled corn on the cob, sliced tomatoes.
Desserts tonight: Yellow cake w/chocolate icing, apple pie, ice cream.
As soon as Walt gets back from the store, I’ll be grilling our chicken for our supper, here at home.
Everyone have a great evening, and if anyone is starting out on their ‘long holiday weekend’, please be safe, watch out for the idiot drivers, and take care.
Peace be with you and welcome home, Sarah. At present, 83 degrees and sunny, with NO storms forecast. I don’t know to handle meself in such a situation.
We’ve had a decent day here, with some field work being done next door, and the resulting smoke for debris being burned stinking up the place. It’s worth it to get that place cleaned up.
Everyone plan well for your 4th, and please be careful on the roads.
[:)] Sarah; glad to see youre back . Thought maybe you were on a multiple leg run and got shifted from sub to sub trying to get back home. LOL ( a little cartoon) ya’ll take care .
Good Friday morning, everyone. We are starting out with a temp of 66 and fair skies this morning, here in Louisville. Supposed to reach about 85, 86 around 5 p.m. today, for our high. Going to another pretty nice day.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: I made cupcakes for this morning, and they’re decorated in Red, White and Blue. We also have turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage patties & links, and biscuits w/sausage gravy, diced fried taters.
I imagine we’ll probably be a little short on people in here over the holiday, as usual. So everyone take care, have a very Safe, Happy 4th, and see you all later.
Good morning from Carolina. 70 and clear a half hour after sunrise, headed for 84 so they say with NO thunder later. My oh My, what shall we do.
I have to take the girls to the beauty parlor and do some errands, so it will be a busy day for me. I woke up around 0500, so guess I will get an early start.
Paula, thanks for breakfast, and everyone have a great day.
Eight o’clock and a balmy 55 here in the north woods. Hopefully the weekend will be a tad warmer. Bike shorts and long johns don’t go well together (probably doing EMS bike patrol Saturday night during some fireworks).
Sarah - fear not. You may not have been here, but we’ve been fully apprised of your whereabouts… [:)]
Found out I brought an extra Wii game controller home with me from MD. Must ship back to son.
Csx is running a good variety of trains today.Q 500 had a hopper car on a flat car that had a derailment.csx crews are looking for the best way to work on the diamond on Monday.Larry hope things go well at the doctor for you.Cw thanks for breakfast.
…Another beautiful morning here in central Indiana…Again. It’s been like this mostly all week. But I see rumblings of the good ol’ heat / humidity will be coming back to serve us. No doubt from me. But right now, it’s very comfortable. Earlier this morning, my instrument indicated our low was 59 degrees…But yesterday’s report of 29% humidity, is almost unheard of in this season.
Must clean a bit of road dirt off very bottom of the body edge {on truck}, especially right behind the front wheel, and then apply the Mequiers cleaner / wax and bingo…Both vehicles are complete…New wax job on both. Must admit Jean did more on the truck than I did.
Just checked over on the Roanoke cam and watched two movements…A long freight westbound, and a former Conrail engine moving west on far track and then stopped over to the right beyound the signals. Cam seems to be working most time I turn to it now. Sure does a nice job and looking at it on my 18" plus monitor {full pic}, sure does make it nice…
Good wishes to all to have a safe 4th holiday…Careful that kids don’t get into too strong explosives, and do injury to hands, face, etc…It appears we are to have mostly sunshine…and as I noted above…warmer.
