Fleischmann 4139 DC AC ?? br 38 HO

I have a Fleischmann 4139 which should be DC 2 rail. When i received it ,it has a center pick-up shoe for 3 raIL. It will not run on 2 rail DC. It has some kind of circuit board in it, May even be a decoder. Whwn i touch the motor directly with a DC transformer leads the motor runs. Does anyone know if it can be rewired to run on 2 rail DC ??

Bob,

it sounds, as if someone has re-wired the loco for 3-rail DC operation. The number states that it should be a DC loco, although Fleischmann also produces some AC 3-rail versions to be sold to Marklin aficionades. Check, whether it has wheel pick-ups on both sides and that they are not connected electrically.
