Flexxboard?

Any experiece with Flexxboard? I have my plywood down and cork in transit and now came accross a product called “Flexxboard”.

Is it any better worse, your thoughts.

Building as yet unnamed Nscale duck under layout.

Thanks.

Are you sure about the spelling? Google finds no such product, but there is one called Flex Board, with only one ‘x’ in the title. It’s basically flexible gypsum board (wall board aka plaster board).

If this is what you’re talking about, I would never try using it on a layout.

RIGHT! That product is intended for building walls, so builder can make fancy curved walls. Nor for model railroaders at all.

On the other hand I have seen Homasote sold in strips with opposing saw cuts every inch or so and can be curved to follow a particular track contour. If this is no longer available commercially, you should have no trouble making some by hand. It really does save on material since you do not need to cut long curving loops in a piece of Homasote, but cut long strips say 3" wide, with alternating perpendicular saw cuts about 2" deep, This you can lay on your table and curve as needed.

ROAR

The commercial roadbed from Homasote is Homabed and is still available (California Roadbed Co.). Great stuff. I used it.

Are you talking about flexxbed? Their website is http://www.hobbyinnovations.com/ It is a vinyl roadbed material. I am definitely considering it for my layout. It is pricier than cork but it sounds like it is a neat material. It lays Down in one piece unlike cork. It also doesn’t dry out overtime and is suitable for the outdoors too! I plan on ordering a bunch Early next year.

Ye my bad. I was refering to the Flexxbed.

Looks like a new material which is why I was wondering if anyone has used it yet.

I just received more Midwest cork and will continue with that, they do allow a sample, may have to order some.

Even if you did mean Flexxbed, I’m glad you started with Flex Board as this flexible drywall is just what I’ve been looking for to finish off the curved portions of my layout backdrops. It’s 1/4" thickness should match the 1/4" drywall I’ve already used for the straight portions of my backdrops. Now to find someone who sells it!
