50 foot containers? Last time I checked, domestic containers are built to the same dimensions as domestic trailers. That would put them at 53 feet or 48 feet, not 50 feet. Plus a 50 foot container would require a special chassis to move it. You can’t adjust a 53 foot chassis. Or lengthen a 48 foot chassis.
Before anybody jumps all over it, there are oddball size domestic trailers on the road, such as 52 and 47-1/2. These are specialized trailers built to haul a specific commodity or to comply with local laws in a specific city, such as New York.
This is good to see FEC applying FEC logos to this new equipment. Surprised not to see just reporting marks.
Thank you for showing a photo of this new equipment.
Were these containers manufactured in China also, like the UMAX containers that went into domestic intermodal service here last year?
RELAX, JERRY. THE PHOTO CLEARLY SHOWS THEM MARKED AS “53” FOOTERS. JUST A TYPO, I’M SURE.
Chassis are made that will adjust from 45 to 48 to 53 feet to fit the container to be mounted on it.
