Foam for scenery

I have noticed on several club modules that the foam pulls away from the framing after a period of time. It is like the foam shrinks. Has anyone else noticed this on their layouts? What I have noticed is on areas built with the pink foam. I have not seen it on the blue but most of the older modules were built with the pink so that may be a factor.

Any comments on this will be appreciated.

Though the Yuba River Sub is built on a pink extruded foam base, I’ve only used the stacked foam for scenery in a couple of places (generally I use the foam for lightweight support contour forms when building scenery, much as one might use plywood), but I’ve not noticed any pulling away. And I certainly would, since the stacked foam is used mainly around riverbeds and lake-shores on my layout. And my layout is in a relatively uninsulated garage, so it’s subject to quite a few temperature changes during the year.

The pink foam I use is 2" thickness made by Corning. I don’t know if anyone else makes the pink foam, but I’ve had no ‘shrinkage’ at all, especially from the framing.

'Tis a mystery to me. [%-)]

Both the pink & blue foam are “supposedly” exactly the same. Should not be a problem of the foam but rather the installation. My [2c]
