foam roadbed and foam tack glue

Unlike my previous railroads which used l-girder framing wood and homasote, my current railroad uses foam core doors as shelves with heavy duty shelf supports and a layer of insulation foam on top. I have used the Woodland Scenics foam roadbed and have glued the track down with their foam tack glue. There is a section with live frog turnouts that have been giving me problems due their antagonism to DCC. I decided on Sunday night to tear out the old track and replace it with DCC friendly turnouts. While I was at it I decided to make some alterations in the track design. This went much faster than my previous experience. All I had to do was wet the track throughly and it popped off with a chisel easily. I sanded the foam and glued the new foam roadbed into place. Last night I layed the track by gluing it down with the foam tack glue. I was running trains over it within an hour of gluing it down. Tonight I will paint the track and re-ballast it and it will be done. If you haven’t tried their foam roadbed I think it is worth checking out. I will probably never go back to conventional track/ roadbed/ framework. - Nevin
