Foam

what should i use to attach pink insulating foam to a prexisting homasote and plywood table?

(the table is 1/2 inch plywood wuth a homasote 1/2 inch piece topping that off)

Glue and screw a piece ½" plywood at leat a foot under the existing plywood/homasote, extending for at least a foot under the extruded foam (and the thin plywood under the foam if you are using it). Use yellow wood glue in both places.

Liquid Nails will make it stick like death on a yellow dog.

There’s a product called “Liquid Nails”. There’s others as well specially formulated to adhere to foam without melting it. You must make sure that it works with foam or you could have disasterous results.
It comes in a tube so you would need a caulking gun to apply it.
I also used drywall screws to hold the first piece to the plywood so that it would not move while it dried.

Will yellow wood glue work?

perhaps a dumb question… nevertheless, if the commander already has his plywood and homasote, why add foam now, and why under the layout? Is this for dampening sound better?

Yellow glue (or wood glue) works very well on foam. It’s all I use these days.

SAV336: “Wedge” is probably adding foam into a cookie-cutter type layout, to use strictly for scenery construction. This sort of compromise beteen an all-foam layout and an all-traditional one is very popular. It’s got nothing to do with sound dampening though.

Its a small layout and I’ve removed the homasote etc. , and i just wanted to add foam so i could make some decent scenery.

all i wanted to know is how to attach the foam to the plywood supports.

Liquid Nails Projects is for foam board. It works great. Will stick the foam board to just about anything. Costs a couple of bucks a tube.

The wood glue may be less of an option because it will have a tendency to only dry on the edges of the seal and remain wet in the middle. This could cause problems later.

Thanks for your help

I went to Home Depot today and bought the Liquid Nails for Foam. I haven’t been able to use it yet (I’m trying to figure out how to remove the old cartridge from the culking gun, but thats another story.)

Thanks for the explanation Orsonroy, now I understand…
