Follow construction of an N scale layout on a door!

All,

I’ve been posting photos as I go of the construction of my fourth layout. It’s my second built on a hollow-core door. I’m at the ballast stage right now, and getting ready to rough in the scenery. I’m using mostly tried-and-true methods of construction gleaned from MR. My past door layout was a big hit a local train shows, and I plan to take this one to shows too. Anyway, I offer my URL for inspiration for anyone interested. Feedback is, of course, always welcome! Oh, by the way, if you see any rough ballast edges, they’ll be covered by a cinder shoulder.

what do you model what area, railroad, and era? love too see pictures of your old ones

I haven’t had much luck figuring out how to post a picture to this forum… If somebody can help me out I’d post pictures of the old one.

If you follow the link, you’ll see all the info about the layout. I model the Pennsylvania Railroad in central Pennsylvania in July 1956. The webpage explains the concept and then has links to construction photos.

Like this? (Note: this is a shot of Dave’s layout from his website.)

Go to the full size picture in your website. Right click on the photo. Click on ‘properties’. In the middle of the page will appear a page with lots of info, in the middle will be the address of the picture (in your case it starts with http://kc.pennsyrr…) and copy the address. Okay, go to the post, where you want to place the photo type (without the space), then paste the address, then close with (again, without the space). Hit ‘preview reply’ to see if it worked okay.

If that’s not clear, try hitting ‘quote’ at the right side of my reply. That should show the exact way I posted this photo.

By the way, the forum software automatically resizes down the photo. When you move your cursor over the photo in the finished post, you’ll see the little hand appear. Clicking on the photo will open it full size.

Best regards

Ed

Thanks! I guess the trick is the photos have to be posted online. I would have to post the pictures of the old layout again in order to meet conrail92’s request. If I get a chance this weekend I might.

Dave

Exactly. If you right-click on any photos posted on the forum, you can see a variety of photo hosting websites that different posters use by looking at the photo ‘address’.

OK! Here are two photos from my LAST layout…

Dave

Egmurphy: You have cool looking layout so far. I just wish I had an airbrush so I could paint my tracks.

Dave Vollomer: Awesome layout!

Thanks!

Actually, egmurphy posted a shot of my new layout from my website… That’s my garage!

Yeah, that was just to help Dave on his photo posting question. Sorry if it wasn’t clear. My door layout is just a beginner grade setup. No painted rails, and not even any ballast (yet).

Regards

Ed

SEEING DAVE VOLLMER’S AND EGMURPHY’S LAYOUTS MAKES ME WISH I HAD MORE ROOM! I PULLED UP MY 2-FOOT BY 4-FOOT “TWICE-AROUND” TO BUILD SOMETHING WITH WIDER CURVES. ENDED UP WITH A SWITCHING LAYOUT ABOUT 6 FEET LONG ON A SHELF BESIDE MY SIDE OF THE BED, ROUGHLY BASED ON SEVERAL CURRENT AND FORMER INDUSTRIAL RAIL LINES IN MY AREA—CENTRAL NEW ENGLAND.
