Food service on the Cardinal

Will be taking the Cardinal coming up (Sleeper) and was wondering if anyone had taken it in the last year or so and could tell me about the food service. I had taken it several years ago but only between Cinncinati and Chicago and back, so just had a quick breakfast and it was back when you got the half bottle of wine and cheese/crackers. Any information on this or anything else to do with the Cardinal is appreciated.

I rode #50 in Feb '07, slpr, DC-Chicago. The food service is a combined diner/lounge. If I recall, lunch was so-so, supper was great and breakfast was just as good. It kept the tummy full for awhile. Staff on the car were all in a good mood that day. Hope your trip was as good as mine.

Rode the Cardinal in Jabuary 2008, sleeping car: CHI-IND and IND-NYP 3 days later. The food service is the “enhanced” menu. Microwave, pre-prepared. Avoid the scrambled eggs at breakfast. The braised short ribs are good. The lunch chicken sandwich was ok. Good scenery, lots of coal trains. If the train starts out late, it just gets worse.
