Art,

I have tried sending you messages via the Forum (that new “private message” option and the “send email” option) more than a week ago. I don’t know if you got the messages as you have not yet replied, so I’m trying to reach you this way.

I would like to know how you built the benchwork that supports that bridge over your canyon (I have the same bridge and am at a loss as to how to build the supporting benchwork). Also, did you paint all the parts before assembly; or painted sub-assemblies as you went along; or did you paint the entire bridge upon completion ? What painting techniques did you use ?

If you have photos of all this, I would appreciate seeing them. Perhaps you could post them so that other members of the Forum can benefit from your modelling prowess.

Your layout looks spectacular and I can only hope mine will look 1/4 as good.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here is one pic that kind of shows one support.

I painted the bridge after it was completed with Krylon plastic spray can paint but before track work was applied. I painted it outside and turned it every which way to get all the parts. It took a couple of coats. This is a great kit and it took about 5 weeks to complete. I did make a lot of changes that I outlined earlier and will not repeat unless someone missed the first thread. Twhite also bashed his in a little differnt way.

Thanks very much for answering so quickly. [:D]

Now I have a very good idea how you got your bridge in place. I should have known it was that simple. [D)]

For painting, I was thinking of using spray paint as well.

I just love your back drop in the 3rd photo (above). [swg]

The question remains, however : did you get any of my messages ?

Yes, I got two emails from you and answered them both, so where they went is a mystery. The stair treads in the third pic make a firm base for the water falls and canyon. It needs to be walkable for building and maitainance. There are pics elsewhere of how it is now partially covered. Waiting for updates on your version of this great bridge kit.

You’ll be waiting a long time, so I wouldn’t suggest you hold your breath. I bought the kit more than a year ago and all I have done so far is take it out of the box. It will be a while before I get it built. And even longer before its installed because I may have to jiggle and juggle some benchwork and/or track plans for my lower deck to accomadate the bridge foundations.

Thanks again for your help.

I had to redo the whole track plan around the canyon to accomodate the bridge. I got a good place to put the quarry out of the changes. The track changes took a couple of days and was worth it.

Art,

I got the bridge built (in N-scale)!!! It took me about a full day’s work. It didn’t take as long as I thought; but then I didn’t make any changes to it like you did.

Now I can work on getting it painted and installed.

With the bridge fully assembled, I can figure out what support it needs and where. Which, in turn will help me determine if I need to modify any of my plans. I don’t anticipate any major problems. In any case, I’m pretty flexible as no tracks have been laid yet, so adjusting plans won’t be too difficult.

I’ll let you know how things progress over the coming weeks/months.

Good for you. Waiting for a pic.
