Keeping with the spirit of the show, a “Man’s Layout” would have 110V on the rails. . No wimpy 12v for a real man.[:)]
I once read an MR article about some guy who actually did this. I beleive it was in his attic on the floor with overhead cantenarry running 110v “1” Gauge streetcars. I think he pirated the motors from mixmasters and that’s why he had to run 110v.

Well now just wait a minute here. Anybody could do 110 volts to the rails, but a REAL man would get a bigger (more power!) transformer and bump it up to 480 volts! This should virtually eliminate the need to clean track, as a little dust could just be vaporized! Since we normally only use 2 rails, you wouldn’t need a phase converter unless you were going with catenary or third rail. Of course, then I could use one of those super-small, really high-torque motors we’ve got at work…

A “man’s” layout would have nothing but BigBoys pulling trains, and nothing but lumber yards, auto stores, hardware stores, drag strips, race tracks and girlie bars in the scenery.

I’d make that grunting noise, but I don’t know how to spell it.
And of course the REAL MAN’S layout would have mountains and scenery made of REAL dirt and REAL boulders, the tunnels would be bored as in real life. None of this styrofoam and plaster stuff that’s childs play!
