For steel mill fans [Warning] Dial up death

Sorry that some are out of focus. My camera was having a fit that day.

[wow][:O] I bet that took a couple of evenings to build![bow]

Looks like some good work but I’d like to see some more Photos…Looks like some neat kit bashes!..Cox 47

Oooh I like it… like it a lot!![:P]

I remember seeing the preliminary drawings for this about a year ago, sure looks great in “real life”!

I wish I could take credit. This is my clubs layout.

Mine is in a perpetual state of “waiting to get the basement walls built” I have the benchwork, but I need to get the walls up before everything gets placed permanently.

I currently have to blast furnaces kit bashed, and a 3 foot rolling mill, and another 3 foot open hearth kit bashed from 3 more rolling mills. All I need to do is set them down and wire everything up.

Nice, but the transmission line tower right next to the BOF or EAF building seems a bit out of place.

SWWWWEEEEEEEEEETTTTTT!!! Very nice, man! Lub it!

I don’t know a darned thing about steel mills but that whole complex sure looks impressive. I’m sure many a night was spent getting all that work done on a club layout.

Believe it or not, transmission towers are a fairly common sight in prototype steel mills - especially near EAFs (Electric Arc Furnaces). They require HUGE amounts of electrical power to melt all that scrap metal, and lots of heavy-guage cables to deliver that power. Dean Freytag’s book about steel mill modeling has several photos of those towers beside mill buildings.

Very nice, I wish I had the room to include that kind of big industry in my layout.

Slightly off the topic here, but about those pictures hanging on the wall behind the layout, do you know if there are more of them than those 12? They look to be a series of drawings and I’m wondering if they’re all about the PRR.

I ask because I found the 4th and 6th (counting from the left) at a local flea market and picked them up for $5 each for my own train room. I just now learned there are (at least) 10 more to look for

Very nice! Good job![:D][tup]
