For the folks helping my coworker Jeremy getting started

I got the first donation for the cause from Rickey. We now have the following.

10 sections of 18 inch turns code 100 NS.

4 sections of 22 inch turns code 100 NS

3 sections of 9 inch straights code 100 NS

1 NS code 100 # 4 RH turnout.

1 NS code 100 # 6 RH turnout.

And the following cars.

If the other folks here that pledge help we are off to a good start.

I have not asked for much from you folks for my self. I know there some here think I am doing the wrong thing helping Jeremy get into the hobby with his lack of funds. If you are one of these folks, would you refrain from answering this post? I hope to send Jeremy a link to this site, with him being new I don’t want him feeling guilty about the help. Last two posting I have started have about this project have been locked?

Crandell, Tom and others, if a flame war starts, could you just remove the nasty grams and not lock the post please?

Thanks to all the great people here that is helping with the project.

Your friend Ken

Ken:

PM me, would you? By the time I got to the post the last time it was locked.

Tom [:)]

Hey, no problem Ken, stuff should be arriving by pack mule some time this week

Tom. I like your signature yes it’s true you can never have too many Articulateds…

Ditto to that- there’s a power brick en route. The 2nd one was dead as a doornail!

Got a track plan or theme for this short line yet?

At this point we have no theme or track plan yet. It going to depend on what we have to work with after we start building the bench.

Jeremy and I where talking about the spaces he has in the garage for the layout. He could go 15 feet long, but only about 4 foot wide and it would be against a wall. I was hopping to go 5 foot, but Jeremy needs to do some measuring. We should be able to come up with some free casters so both sides can be worked with out him laying on the bench.

If we get 2 DC power packs, I hope we can have two loops.

I will up date as stuff arrives, and thanks again.

Ken

Ken,

I just want to express my appreciation for what you are doing. Unfortunately I cannot make any contribution, as the shipping charges from Germany are prohibitive.

Part of the fun in our hobby is sharing and helping - you do a good job there, mate!

Ken,

Keep me posted on the caster situation I have a milk crate full of them out in my shop that I got on freecycle when I needed some to build a rolling body stand for the shop. I keep kicking the crate every time I pull the mig welder out so I definitely know where they are…lol

Well I got three more packages today!

Brain sent a Model Power power pack, much nicer than I was hopping for, I like the lever for power control.

Philip sent a lot of brass turnouts, guessing around 7, I forgot to count before I mixed them in with the others.

Crosby sent some turnouts, and turns plus these Beauty’s!

PK 2000 SW 8

My tripod was in a nasty mood!

Bachmann Spectrum GB 35 in UP colors.

I must say I was taken by booth engines!

Here is a copy and paste of the current track received.

Comments - 5 9" pieces of straight track. Whoa! that’ll make a huge layout. What happened to he’s just going to build a small 4x8 layout? Now it’s 6’x10’ and maybe bigger if he takes your suggestion Ken to expand over the hood of his car. As was posted before, where’s all the wood for such a larger layout going to come from? Where’s the addiitonal track going to come from. Ken maybe your friends at the almighty and awesome K-10 trains store could pony up and help out with some addiitonal track and/or funds for the beckwork. I mean, it makes business sense to them to get another person hooked on the hobby so they will spend what little money they have in their store.

Far as lumber, I have a lot I don’t need, all he needs is a sheet of plywood, and I have some as well. As far as he has 6 X 10 spaces, that would be the sizes of the layout, that includes walk around room. He is thinking of using a ping pong table as a base and it is on wheels, we think it is 5 X 8 but neither of us is for sure.

When I brought up making the bench tall so he could park his car under it, that was before I knew he had a 6 X 10 spaces.

On the L shape bench, we all know that a 4 X 8 against the wall layout has its problems. I was on this site. http://www.layoutvision.com/id28.html I like some of the ideas and was thinking out loud, so to speak.

I my self have 12 feet of flex track and at $3.25 a section I think I can swing that.

Jeremy has a good head on his shoulder and will not put the train hobby before his family.

Thanks again, Ken

Ken good on you for doing this. I somehow missed the original threads altogether, probably because I have my book mark set to the DCC page and don’t dip into the main forum all that much. Anyway, sent you a PM as I most certainly have some stuff, and I am not referring to the assorted Tyco, Bachmann and LifeLike things that the boys liberated from under your bench [:D] I can’t give those back as they are not mine to give and the boys rather cherish them.

Glad they like them Simon. You have a PM as well.

Ken

Got two more packages today! I will post pictures Sunday, it took around 2 hours to organizes and list the track sent. Here is a copy and paste of the track we have now.

15 22 Brass Turns &n

Finally got around to post some more PIC.

Got some more passenger cars.

Missing a wheel set, but I think I have some spares. What sucks, I think I threw away all my MC Henry couplers? First rule Ken from k-10 told me was don’t throw away any thing!

I love this one.

Delaware and Hudson, love the paint scheme. Was let down when I found there was no motor, but looks like a Athearn motor will fit.

First one is a dummy. Next two are Athearns with the old Rocket Motor. Any one know how to fix frames? Central New York that is not a stitcher coupler mount has been broke off from the rear of the Chassis. To bad, great looking engine and good weathering!

Next is a Athearn GB 35, I think. I have a matching engine that was weathered by a Pro. Best looking engine I have, but after 3 years I have not converted it to DCC guess I never will. Now if I can only find it? [:D] Last time I saw it Crispy (Simon 1966 son) was asking if he could have it. 99.9 percent I said no.

Need some paint but what the heck, it is a Athearn!
