I’m not sure how full-featured it is, or how well it handles scaling things, but if you want to sketch out a building and see how it would look, this looks like a GREAT tool to use!
yea, i wasn’t talking about the $500 version. the free one seems quite interesting! especially if you’re trying to build a structure for a specific location.
pretty sweet. I do like how you can design them on the computer.
But I do like to draw myself. I like to design my own by drawing but I can see were this can come in handy.
Thanks for showing
It says “Click here to download Google SketchUp (free) for Windows” I spent a bunch of time downloading it to find that’s a big lie. You need Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Professional. Of course you don’t find that out until AFTER you download it and it will not launch the installer. You would think Google would be more accurate. So if you don’t have them versions forget it. Fred, I’m not sure what your problem was, but as soon as I clicked on the download button on the upper left the first screen that came up listed the minimum system requirements and called out the necessary operating systems, before starting the download.

“You need Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Professional.”
Windows 2000 and up tends to be the standards these days. It does look like an interesting program though. Older operating systems are beginning to be phased out.
hmmm a new piece of software that requires a fairly recent version of the operating system . that’s not really too surprising . and i wouldn’t say it’s a lie , maybe just that they didn’t tell you the requirements soon enough
windows xp was released in 2001 , that’s 5 years ago . how long do you expect people to support an OS that’s over 5 years old ? (ME , 98 , 95) . even the manufacturer of those versions doesn’t support them anymore
flee307 I sympathize with you on the requirements, but truly things are going forward. Don’t worry though, when Vista comes out everyone will be yelling. I guarantee it. lol [nerd here [:)] ]

Cool software guys. Thanks for the tip. I downloaded it and after going through the tutorials (20 min?), I was able to create a simple structure design with added components!
Take a look!
I’m still not sure how exactly this will help me scratchbuild but it will at least allow me to visualize what I’m going to build.
