For Traction Fans and/or Turn of the Century Cityscapes

I think some folks here will appreciate this clip - I’ve never seen it before, and you probably won’t get a better feel for high tempo traction operations than you’ll see in this clip. Plus, the mixture of horse and early car traffic offers some great fodder for building your cityscapes.

I’ve seen this particular clip before but it’s always fun to watch. Thanks for posting it.

That’s the same road after the earthquake, yes? Amazing contrast before and after. Thanks for sharing it.

What surprised me was how alert the drivers must have been: There’s a lot of people & bicycles “playing chicken” plus horse wagons and automobiles constantly cutting in front of the traction cars. The number of traction cars in use on the street was also unexpected.

My frame of reference is the last ten years of the Johnstown Traction Company PCCs in circa 1960 without that kind of heavy-duty “jaywalking.” Getting your tires stuck in the rails was always a potential personal safety issue at age ten when riding your Schwinn bicycle.

Traction is only a finger away!
