Foreign power on the UP Overland Route

I have noticed a lot of Foreign power on the UP Overland route in the last 2 weeks or so. (BNSF, Conrail, CSX, NS, CN) All through the summer all I saw was Armor yellow UP units. Now all of a sudden it seems like every train has at least one foreign unit. Anybody have some insite on this? Or am I the only one that noticed this?

Its a seasonal thing, this is peak season for the western roads so at this time of year they will have more foreign power, which they payoff in the spring and summer.

For some reason I have also seen probably 3 times more foreign power in the past few months than usual.

Check my web site below & you can see from last May till now how much foreign power the UPRR is now using vs last spring

same deal on the CN here. tons of foreign poer every where, even leading, they arn’t suposed to but they do it anyway.

Last week I had to do a doubletake near DC. A CN SD70 leading a couple of leasers (HLCX) on CSX just north of DC pulling a string of autoracks. First CN unit I had ever seen in person, let alone here. We do get the occasional UP and BNSF swap.

Yeah, for some reason, this is something that gets asked about twice a day.
