Former BC Rail North Vancouver station demolished
I will always remember my one and only journey on the BCR, starting at North Van and going all the way to Prince George on the 1st class Budd car. Met up with 3 newly hired future brakemen, on their way to begin their student trips on the line north of Prince George. Enjoyed a few beers with them at P G. Almost 40 years later I wonder how their careers turned out.
One of the great memories of my first trip to the west coast.
It is really sad what’s happening on former BC Rail and specially North Vancouver station. Being Swiss and having often visited my brother living in West Vancouver, I travelled every time with the steam train to Squamish or by Diesel Rail Car to Wistler Mountain and even once to Prince George. Such geat lines in beautiful scenery, and now no more passenger trains and stations at all…what a progress…!
Many happy memories of trips that started and/or ended at that station. But given that it only dated back to the opening of the line in 1956 and was not particularly architecturally noteworthy, and given that it had probably not been of any use to the railway in the last ten years, I can understand why it went.
Another sign that EHH is now at CN?
Oops! Forgot he’s now at CP. (Those Canadian trains “all look alike”, eh?)
A small step to remove a historic depot. Sad. I too rode the BCR in their Budd Cars to Prince George - an amazingly scenic trip.
My son and I rode a Royal Hudson Trip to Squamish and back (which the PGE opened in 1954!), now, even the Station in north Van gone? I think British Columbia should rethink it’s Railroad Heritage, before it is too late. Railroads played an important role in its history, which should not be eradicated.
Yes a sad commentary on a previous government who sold the line and did not safeguard any future access for heritage operators who could have retained the tourist interest for excursions to Squamish and beyond.
Its sad to see the station go. This station and BC Rail severed the Provence of British Columbia well. Its too bad that the BC Premere was so short sighted that he let the Provence’s railroad disappear into a corperated giant that thas little interest in the local area. CN is a giant that has no interest in passengers or regional railroads and how they serve an area.

Rode the Starlight Dinner Train many times with family and friends from Vancouver. Looked forward to it on holiday trips until its untimely demise. That ride and that station evoke wonderful memories, which is all that’s left. Family and friends are mostly gone, and now, so is the station. At least I have a BC Rail tank car on my model train layhout!
