Former Warbonnet FP45 Anyone have info on this?

Hello crew!

Don’t worry, I’m not trying to spread misinformation.

I saw a picture of FP45 #101 in Santa Fe colors as I was surfing through rail related websites. The caption read that the photo was taken in 2005 and it was in Kissimme Florida! Last I read, I thiought this unit was at a museum.

The photo is on www.RRpicturearchives.net

I found it hard to believe since a retired FP45 in Santa Fe Warbonnet colors coming to Florida would have made big news in railfan circles, especially on this forum.

Does anyone know the status of this unit? Is it in running condition?

I don’t know about 101 (91?) but the 98 is at the Orange Empire Rail Museum in Perris,Ca.

Was that one they sold to that transico rr in San Fransico before they got rid of them to the museums? That rr went bankrupt some time after they bought two of them…

I know for sure that they have one in the Age of Steam Musuem in Dallas.

What? I think 91 was wrecked on Cajon in 1994 or was 91 sold to Wisconsin Central?

92 is at the Illinois Railway Museum.

According to RR Picture Archives ATSF 91 went to Wisconsin Central.

Antonio, I found the photograph I think you are refering to, and ATSF 101’s page. I also looked at the album the photograph is from. I noticed almost all of the photographs, several ATSF locomotives and a BN train, are listed as at Kissimmee, FL. Something is wrong here. I suspect that there is a town somewhere in the Midwest with a similar name and someone at the website thought it should be Florida. I also have my doubts that all the photographs were taken on April 22, 2005.

Eric,

Thanks for shedding some light on this. Too bad. Would have been nice if it were true.

I looked at the photo again. The photographer is a teen (great to know that there are young people that photograph trains instead of tagging them!). I think that the intent of the caption is to say that this young man is from Kissimme, Florida (pronounced Kis-Sem-Mee), and he took a trip to the midwest. Just a guess.

I did read earlier this year on a railfan website that one of the preserved FP45s is “semi”-operational and even had a gyra-light installed between the number boards. Hopefully that does come true.

Thanks for your, replies guys!
