Fort Lauderdale depot remodel nearly complete

I wonder how long it’ll be in use. With AAF planning to build a major station in Ft Lauderdale, and with the FEC opening itself up for passenger service, I can see Amtrak considering the FEC a much more attractive way to get to South Florida.

(FWIW, the FEC goes through the downtowns of every city in South East Florida, while the former Seaboard line kinda skirts the edges. And the FEC line is part of project to introduce Transit-Oriented Development to the area, with the plan being to introduce a parallel Tri-Rail train on FEC tracks. So the FEC, already attractive, is going to be massively more attractive to transit operators within the next ten years.)

@ Paul Harrison: the former SAL tracks USED to be ‘on the outskirts’ of the southeast Florida cities. development spreading westward to the edge of the Everglades actually puts more potential customers to the west of the original population centers. I think there is enough demand for both routes to be useful for Tri-Rail and I would like to see some (not all) Amtrak service on the FEC as far south as West Palm Beach, then crossing over to the present route. (a connection track exists about a mile north of the present WPB station)

What about a picture of the station???
