Wouldnt it be nice if this Forum had a chat room? I am a IRCer, and the nice ppl on the IRC network is letting me start a channel, so, why not have the channel be the official, or unofficial chat room of this forum…you can download the IRC client from www.kickchat.com…sign on, create a handle, then type /join #Foamers_Inc
There is no reason why someone could not create a railroad oriented chat room on AOL. Of course you have to know it is there and what it is called or it is pure dumb luck if you find it. The car and truck guys seem to have their regular chat rooms, not created by AOL but created by a member.

a Chat room WOULD be nice
Yeah, hey Bergie, what can you do about that ???
[?] I’m sorry - I thought that this was a “chat” room.
[?] Mookie
Drailed…Dont aske bergie, I can make the chat room on the Internet Relay Chat Network called Kickchat…All I need to do is register it. I am thinkin the name should be “Foamers_Inc”
Sorry Mookie…this is not a real time chat
But who has “real” time?
Moo
to mookie:
I think what bnsfkline is suggesting is an “instant message” room like the msn messenger, the aol messenger, yahoo messenger, icq, etc. See www.railchat.com you’ll have to register but it’s free.
Let’s put some definitions in here
chat: instant messaging; one person types something and waits merely seconds for a reply from someone else in the chat room; messages are not saved.
forum: this thing you are reading now; topics are created, a position is stated, and people reply over a period of days, weeks, months, years, etc.; messages posted are saved indefinatly
bullitin boad: like a forum, I think, correct me if I’m wrong (on any of these)
PS- I forgot to say ‘YES’ I would be in favor of a chat room here
[;)] psst - the Mookie has been in a couple of chat rooms, so I am taking a page from Skeets book and “toying” with the public. [:(!] Bad Mookie.
But - really - who has time to really get into a chat room - they hit and miss here so fast, would they really take time to stay in a chat room very long?
moo…
Well, I guess there’s only one way to find out! it might be an incentive (did i spell that right?) to stay around longer.
I get the impression that since the forum format change user frequency and membership is up? Sure seems busier here now more than ever and more than other train forums. Now, if we had been in a chat room I could’ve responded a lot faster. [:)]
I still got my old, old puter. Getting some fast new ones, but this relic would get me to the door and my lunch hour would be over!
M…ook
But wouldn’t it be easier to go back and forth between the two in the same web site [?] [8D][:D]
yes i had that idea also but i would like it to be voice also. and a schedual debate such as rail crossing accidents the stupid question list . with a moderator to time the debate and keep it clean and cool. sometimes airing things is easier than writing.
Mookie has a headache with all this new-fangled stuff. I am still just barely getting around on the forum! Plus you must remember, some of you are into digital cameras and the latest in puter equipment - not all of us can either afford all that OR
our company just isn’t that into brand new equipment. But - we can’t stop progress and I do like a lot of the new innovations, even if I can’t use them or buy them. So go forward! If you get it going, let me know and I will try to get to at least the sign in before my hour is up!
La…
Hey all [:)]
I just downloaded MSN Messenger. I also have AOL Instant Messenger. Anyone wanting to IM me is welcome to. Would love to hear from any and all railroaders and railfans. [:)]
I defenately like the idea of a Web based chat, and it isn’t hard to bild either!
Like Jim said- get yourself a free copy of MSN messenger and join us.
4 years and still nothing!
I go to one online from time to time that is mostly railroaders with a few fans… but it is run by a privit person and is open to the public… also…there is no need to register and it is unmodorated so anything goes when we are talking… it is not just trains or train related things…(but being its unmodorated there is no one to run to if you get your feelings hurt) unlike some of the other online railroad chats i have visited in the past (trainorders when it had a chat room and railroadforums just to think of 2 off the top of my head)… the core group such as myself are a close knit group of people that have been chating online for years now… and we always have a good time when we get together…but are always welcomeing to new faces…

I disagree.
The time period between posts is a buffer.
A chat room will just deteriote into a harder, hotter faster flame war.
I constantly cut down on the time I spend on line. Life is more fun than a machine hooked to a internet.
