I can’t seem to get quotes from other people’s posts in those yellow boxes. The help file is no help on this. I use the quote and slash-quote codes and copy and paste what I want to quote between them and it just comes out as plain text with the codes showing. What am I doing wrong?
In the upper right hand corner of your post is a quote button that will do that for you.
Otherwise you can use the code [ quote] your quote[/ quote] (but leave out the spaces.)
Also, remember that once the quote is embedded in your reply, you can edit it. So, you can choose to only quote a portion of the other member’s post. That’s particularly useful when replying to one specific point in a long post.
Also, when you do edit the quote, use the “Preview” button at the bottom (right next to the “Post” button) and make sure it looks the way you want before you post it. This is also a good way to make sure your photo links are correct, and to verify that you’ve got the command syntax correct for italics, etc. That way, you won’t have to re-edit your post after it goes up. Yeah, look who’s talkin’.
Doooh! So easy. So obvious. Never paid any attention to that button because it was on other people’s messages. Thanks, guys. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
I guess so.[:)]
Do you have to type in the "Originally posted by…" info or does this appear automatically?
Jerry
You have to type it i unless you use the quote button in the top right hand corner.
There have been several excellent answers and let me suggest one more thing. There is a forum to use for experimenting and there you can try all your techniques and be even more proficient at posting.

I used it several times and got quick answers. I’m no posting expert but it was a great help in doing the things I wanted in all the forums.

Hey, neat. Didn’t know that existed. That’s a good idea to have a test forum. I’ll have to remember that.
How do I do several different quotes in one post please?
You mean like this?
The way I do this is to manually cut and paste the post into the reply and then add the {quote} Quoted text goes here {/quote} forum code. I have to use the {} in this example but you would normally use the instead. These are also known in the world of web design as TAGS. Each markup language statement needs an opening and a closing TAG. This is the MR forum code syntax for the markup language that creates the webpage. The beginning of the quoted text and the ending of the quoted text need to be marked with the forum code for quotes. Click the link to the left of the reply box Show forum code for a complete list of the MR forum code syntax.
Here is a better example of some quoted text and the way it needs to look in your reply:
