I was just thinking. How about getting rid of the stars and let the user add at least one small photo or one gif right under their user-name like other forums. Im sorry guys and gals, but, this some kind of crazy idea I just had come to mind.
Allan.
That’s not a bad idea. the stars are pointless, and a pic of my favorite RR logo (B&M) would look pretty cool under my name…
I agree. People sometimes think that stars are the best, but it is not the quanity but the quality of the posts.
Yeah, I’m a senior member on several truck boards and not a one has stars. All have avatars that you can pic however.

Actually if you have been paying attention to comments from Bergie you would know that the stars will be going and… THE AVATARS ARE COMING!!!
Whats an Avatar?
It’s a picture that shows up with every post you make, and it’s where the stars are now.
Here, you can see how it is set up on another favorite board of mine.

The problem is all the avatars, most of which are meaningless add bandwidth which seriously slows the loading time for dialup users. Some boards are set up so you can turn the d*** things off so you don’t have to wait for them to load every time.
How DARE you say my avatar is meaningless! [:(!]
Just kidding…
A local forum I post on has avatars and no stars, but the post count is included.
…If it’s not broke, why fix it…? It’s just a vehicle to express thoughts and statements and it seems to be handling that rather well…
Cuz it looks prettier? LOL[:D]
Just go to my web site & you can see me next to a UPRR train in the Cajon Pass

I guess you’ve missed this discussion in the past. Later this summer, we’ll be updating our forum software similar to our sister magazine’s FineScale Modeler. You can see it here: http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/
There will be no stars in the new forum, but you will be able to add an avatar, as shown in the FSM forum.
I know, why change when things seem to be just fine? Well, it’s all about compliance (that is, Trains.com getting up to speed with what the rest of our company is using). I know change can be hard at times, but I’m certain you’ll adapt just fine and will enjoy the new forum.
