Is there such an individual who oversees this forum??
Just curious. [:)]

Yes, Bergie.

BERGIE IS THE HEAD HONCHO

The Bergenator…

Adrianspeeder

Bergie is a CREAM PUFF[:D]. Oh boy am I in trouble now[:o)].
Allan.

My reason for the question was that on August 10, Ed posted “Urgent —call the Orkin Man” and after all of the responses I thought maybe things had settled down a bit. There still seems to be a few “the sky is falling posts” and others that are a little immature.
A lot of the questions asked on the forum can be answered by reading a current issue of Trains magazine; a full years subscription is a wealth of information.

I am 55 years old and not a Troll as well. I am recently retired and a Viet Nam Vet/U.S. Navy. Four years aboard a guided missle destroyer providing gun support off the coast of Viet Nam and other duties in the Gulf of Tonkin.

RL,
I think Bergie watches for the language content, and the personal attacks that get out of hand.
On occasion, the threads that get too deep into the political or religious arguments get the axe also.
But beyond that, he lets us pretty much police ourselves, which works most of the time.
As for the trolls, as long as they dont break the forum content rules, he would have to leave them alone, else this would turn into “Bergies” train forum…
Even if I dont agree with what the “trolls” write, I believe they have as much of a right to post as the next guy, I just wi***hey would find another forum to do it on!

Ed

RL Hainey: Not a troll here either! It’s true that most questions can be answered by just reading trains magazine, or as others have pointed out, just by doing a search on the forum. What we would miss out on is the opinions, stories and inter-actions of other people. That’s the fun part. There are a lot of articulate, knowledgeable and interesting people who post here. I personally want to absorb as much of that as I can! By virtue of posting on a trains forum, I presume you are a railfan. ( Brilliant deduction on my part![:)]). How 'bout going to the Heydays vs. Nowadays post and adding some info about your area of interest?

And p.s. Thanks for serving your country. There’s a reason we’re a free country, and you are it !

Agree wholeheartedly Ed. I feel this forum was set up to discuss trains and train related subjects. I have learned a lot by reading answers to how signals work, train operations and the like. What gets old is every train/vehicle wreck that happens, what colors on locomotives SUCK and the nonsense like that. The UP bashing posts were getting out of hand.
And too, this is definitely not the place to discuss religion, sex, or politics. I want to read about train movements, engineer/conductor experiences, operations and etc.

When I had to report to my assigned ship in Long Beach, Calif., it was aboard one of the last true Santa Fe passenger trains before Amtrak. While in Great Lakes, Illinois, I rode the Chicago-North Western from Waukegan to Chicago. Also I have ridden aboard the Chicago-South Shore-South Bend electrified.

Murphy Siding: Not to brag here but, drop by my place and I will show you the definition of “railfan”. For many years people where I live thought I worked for the railroad (Santa Fe). I retired from a natural gas transmission company. I have been a railfan for 30 years give or take a day.

Yes, there are a lot of posters and responders on here who are very knowledgeable and their answers (responses) are interesting reads. Railroading is an interesting occupation for some and hobby for us others.

Roland

Just out of curiosity, what does Bergie do if you break some of the rules?

To: RLHainey
From: Eolafan (and I am sure others)
Subject: Your military service…one word memo

THANKS!

Beware of a late night knock on your door!!!

Haha[:D]! Yes, that is quite funny, but really what does he do, ban you for a while or something like that?

Murphy Siding & eolafan: Thank you for the military service compliment. Four years military service back then is much different than present. I don’t regret my time in service. Like the slogan says, “Join the Navy and see the World” and yes I did.

jeaton: Late night knock at my door will receive a “Welcome, can I help you?”

Also, Bergie cannot get here from there.

If you have provided your e-mail address, he may contact you, explain his objections and ask you to amend your ways. If you are way out of bounds, he may just delete your posts or topic. If you don’t respond and reform, you will be blocked from participation.

You have seen the discussions above. I think the rules are quite reasonable.

RL

Sounds like you got far enough away so that any stranger at the door would be lost. That’s cool.

Jay

Hey Hainey,

I would like to thank you for the effort you put into serving this country’s armed forces too, sincere thanks!! [:)]

But, just to illustrate a point and hopefully to NOT offend you, but your military service record does not fit into even your own strict criteria for what you said earlier as to why you thought the forum was provided FOR.

Key element being, we are a collection of individuals each with broad and varied interests. And from time to time second and third context subjects will spring up that catch the passing interest of another member, is it really that big of a deal for such curiousities to be expressed and satisfied>

The key is, as a group, one has to have some degree of tolerance, or they shouldn’t be participaring in group discussion. I’ve seen topics that themselves were pretty dull morph into discussions on separate topics which were so interesting I was actually afraid some dead pan was gonna start scowling “what doe this have to do with the original subject?”

FWIW

Hey AntiGates.
Where did you get the moving train from…Ive noticed that several other folks have anamations too…Can you let us know? Thanks,Danny

[#ditto][#ditto] I most certainly agree! [#ditto][#ditto]
