Forum redesign?

Did I blink again and miss the forum changing its format slightly? I’ve noticed that the ads that were at the side of the page are not in the middle making them much, much more annoying. Why?

These new ads seem to be slowing the forum down as well. I would guess they are the reason the Diner was shut down. [:(!]

They are better than a membership fee, or no forum at all.

I’d rather pay to be on a forum where if you pony up some $$ the ads go away. Even if they went to the side of the page where they were, it’d be better. I’ve also noticed significant slowing of the forum too.

I don’t find the new in-alignment advertising objectionable at all.

After all, it IS their forum. Using it as we do is a privilege, not a right.

I understand that. I’m just exercising another of my rights to politely object to something![8D]

Yeah, I noticed it but no big deal. Just my [2c]

I’m not sure we have any rights here. And I doubt anything negative said about the ads will make them go away, so what’s the point in objecting?

Kalmbach wants to serve their customers. If people leave the forum there is no one to buy the goods and services advertised.

My intent in this thread wasn’t to be negative, but merely to ask the question what happened?

I noticed the change in ad placement also, but didnt notice a slow down with it…I have noticed that I seem to wait quiet a while sometimes for the next page to load or the post to be accepted, but that was happening with the previous version, also.

It seems that if my post is not accepted by 30 seconds, it never will be posted. Just sits there in limbo…Anyone else notice something similar?

Ads in the middle of Forums is nothing new. I don’t know what it is about the way I have IE7 configured but all I receive is the red X.

Top, bottom, makes no difference to me…

Haven’t noticed a slow down either. But, it is their forum, on their web site, which, at least as the forum is concerned, we use it for free, so, they can do what they want…

I haven’t noticed a slowdown, but then agian I"ve got a crummy computer.

GO BEARS

Kalmbach does serve its customers. But you do not need to be a customer to access these forums, so I don’t see the connection.

And Kalmbach’s magazines and books did just fine in the marketplace for many, many years – LONG before these forums were born. While the Trains forums may enhance interest in Kalmbach’s offerings and provide an additional method of reaching railfans, many other magazine publishers have remained successful without offering forums – or even Internet sites, for that matter.
