Just my thoughts
It evolves as the members come and go. There are always new topics coming along, most train related, but some not. This isn’t a problem, is it?
Sometimes it does seem a little slow, but it may just mean that we are spending too much time here, when we should be doing other things, and I DO INCLUDE MYSELF IN THIS OBSERVATION!!![:)]
Its like watching the grass grow or paint dry, come back a little later and you will notice a difference.
If you mean topics posted and replies, maybe so. Everyone should jump right in and ask questions and make comments. It’s a hobby and it should be fun, so no real serious issues. And meeting people and getting to know them is absolutely the best part of the hobby. I’ve made some really great friends in model railroading.
[tup][tup][:D][8D]Good to read from a “BIG BLUE” fan.
I hope I’m getting the thought across with this reply:
[8)][8)]IMHO, regarding this poll, instead of asking if the forum is slowing down, an interesting version of this poll could be regarding “the types and or quality of the topics or replies.”
Some posts & responses have been full of detailed modeling info
Some are from genuine newbies needing help,
Some are short or vague and seem obviously intended to help the “Post-ee” or “Respondent” gain stars,
Some are off topic and lean towards emotional or political views.
Some others are of the extreme anger / insult / flame fanning category.
What’s interesting, however, is that even “controversial” posts or responses can be of decent quality if the post or response is well thought out or written.
Peace out!
Thanks Antonio, I like the list. I think that you should add: simply tell a story or be silly. I try to stay out of the insult business. I’m glad that you can find the good mixed in with some of that other stuff.[:)]

While I think DOS is fun, I still know that the forum is for questions and not to get stars. I don’t get paid for stars, but I do get some respect around the forums. I will confess that I am #3, I do post shorter ones (they are getting longer though) for the stars. I do, however, post lots of content that is intended to help someone,if someone desperately needs help, I’m probably not going to jokearound, because he will think I’m not being nice by joking when he is at the risk of something that is a major waste in anyway, shape or form.
As said earlier, I am not posting this to offend anyone at all, I’m just posting because I believe this poll is worth a reply.
For 20 years I was in the military, all layouts were on wheels!! Pretty much an arm chair railraoder. Now I work for Alaska Airlines as a engine mechanic, again, a loner as I work 10hr shifts on nights. No time to go to a club meeting or a running session. This forum does answer alot of my questions and brings up things that I hadn’t thought of before. I don’t care if its slow or not, just keep posting!!
i voted yes. when i first came here i learned a lot. but now it seems there are a lot of repeated topics, granted that happens on every forum you’ll ever go to. also a lot of the stuff now that is being posted to me is useless or beyond me at this point. i guess its since i’ve learned a ton of stuff that now when i come here there are things that i already know and don’t really need to look at or there are just topics that i don’t really care about. stuff about other scales rather than HO.
What happend to Johnnydash9 ?
People come and go, some get bored, some are looking for a forum that suits there style and some have other things going on in there lifes (changing work loads).
Even though this is a very diverse hobby you can only ask so many questions on ballasting or laying track and so on. eventually the regulars will hear questions repeated several times. and unless something interesting is happening will move along to greener pastures.
Flaming and snide remarks also take effect as not everyone has that thick hide and will walk away as this is “Just another club meeting” of the egos.
As in life there are cycles and what goes around comes around and eventually will come full circle. Like the tide there’s high water and low water. And as we say in these parts if you don’t like the weather just wait five minutes as it is about to change.
We just got to keep it interesting.
Do I think the forum is getting slow, well maybe a little but then we have to look at several things. The weather is changing so people in the southern climates are not house bound so to speak as have been the past couple of months. I notice a lot of new people to the hobby showing up and asking bonified questions that many of us have answered in the past many times which some may consider boring but I enjoy meeting new people and helping them. I consider this and other forums my second model railroad club and yes it is geared for model railroading, but I see no harm with a few off topic posts now and then. After all, don’t you club members talk about other things while your working on your club layout. Some off topic post can and have induced ideas for use on our model layouts. We all have different styles, ideas and personalities and that my friends is what makes this this forum interesting and educational. I have a sense of humor, it gets me into trouble sometimes. I posted a reply to someone asking about materials to replicate a plowed field. there were a few good solid replies before I replied with a humorus answer to get a model John Deere B and plow and go at it, then added a list of other farm impliments needed to fini***he job. I know some felt it was an uncalled for smart remark, but I also know some or hope some took it as it was intended and thought that, gee, a tractor would add a little spice to farm scene or that open field. Nuff said, please excuse the typing, I used to use the hunt and peck method, but now use the peck and hope!! [(-D][(-D]
A life with no humour is purgatory! But some of you already know that[(-D]
Crap- Dougal is cathing Up!!
Just kidding man-
But if you mean Spped as in time to access tghe site, why then yes, i have DSL and it takes one hell of a long time to load a page, oh and a 2.4 GHZ computer…

Yes i do…
I still think this forum is intresting. I don’t know why anyone would say otherwise.
I think this forum rules. I find all the answers to my questions here. Though, I do think it’s slowing down a bit.
Ok, whats purgatory[%-)][%-)]Oh-- Wait a minute, that is where you can find the golden spike[:)][:)] Nope, that was Promontory!! Ok, I get it , your messin with me–right[%-)][(-D]
[:D] Riiiight
Ok fergmiester,----- don’t you have some ballasting to do??? I could send Bubba up there to help ya, he’s real good at spreading stuff around, especially ballast, he thinks its his kitty litter I think.[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]
It’s a thought, but I would have to cage the bird first. I have no need for HO seagulls. Does Bubba shovel snow as well?
Yes. I post both from work and home (high speed connections). Lately I have had performance issues. Topics don’t open, replies don’t post. I just it runs on the same system that mails my magazines.
It’s getting very sloooowwwww
