Hello All
Anyone else noticing the forums running slow tonight?
Yes, very slow again. Seems to happen often. I’m moving on to another forum. Sure wish this one was as fast and consistant as the Atlas forum.
Gale
Yup, still slow. I’m outa here,
Ed
Yes. It took me nearly seven minutes to get one reply posted. This one will likely take four or five.
It was slow get on to the site, but seems OK now.
Yes, also slooowwww for me
I like this site and I’m not leaving. But I don’t understand why they don’t fix it. There must be about a million computer folks who would know how to solve the problem.
I had problems friday night, I gave up on saturday night, last night the only way I could get on is by using Google to search forums and that was slow and it’s been 11 minutes to get here and when I hit the “post” icon, I’ll have time to read “War and Peace” before I’ll see my post.
Too frustrating for me . I put it right down there with the roanoke museum rail cam . Time to move on until something changes . RON
Slow??? Gimme a break!! It would have to speed up to be “slow”…
Maybe instead of hiring another “cheif” they sould consider investing in their “infrastructure”. You can only defer maintenance for so long before your track and roadbed is “shot”.
But, one the other hand what do I care, it’s not my problem…

Well, it’s after midnight CST so apparently some “genius” there is still running back ups at “peak time”. You can buy 'em books but if all they do is look at the pictures…

After midnight is peak time? When are they supposed to back it up?
I have several clients that are 24/7, so thre IS no ‘down time’ to back things up or do work, which is very frustrating when it comes to trying to apply patches to keep things up to date.
Actually, with the high volume of logs something like a forum generates, the transaction logs should eb backed up multiple times per day. I suspect the real reason for the uber slowness last night is a once a month maintenance plan being run - it was the 1st after all - doing all sorts of integrity checks and hogging up the database.

The idea might be to get another server as well to handle the forum…one that is a little bigger than what they may have right now…
Then again, a lot of forums I was on last night were pretty slow as well…so maybe some of that could be a slow internet as well…
Yes. It was slow last night. I just waited it out instead of whining about it and crying about relocating to another forum that may supply better info. If you are serious about that then have a good trip and farewell. Obviously MR does not have what you want. I find the advice and topics here to be much better than other forums I have been to. I will be sticking here.
Wow, you must have a lot of free time. Many of us have a life and can’t waste a lot of time staring at a screen while it fills up. Or doesn’t.
Ed
Keep in mind he’s only 17.
It is March 8th, 2011.
It has been fixed!
Today the TRAINS.com forums seems to be responding very quickly.
By the the way I tried to register on the ATLAS FORUMS. The message said they would e-mail me a password to get on the forums, but I never got a response. I guess they do ignore some people at the ATLAS forum. They might actually ban people from the ATLAS FORUM if they have sent any roadname suggestions for future production runs, so they do not repeat the suggestion on the forum.
Andrew
The Atlas forum never sent me an email either. Kinda frustrating actually.
http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=1 this is an example of a speedy forum, and it is railroad related. I am still on 56k and I want to interact on this forum, but it is staggering me forever. Kalmbach needs to re-evaluate their Ad usage, Image usage and interaction capability. I don’t care how high speed things get, you can improve traffic by being more efficient in the internet processing. My computer programming experience always taught your more efficient coding will improve processing, and knowing search techniques, there are slow and fast ways to do data search. All the Ads gloat bandwidth and if you get lots of users, your going to slam your servers. I understand what Kalmbach wants and needs to do but I am critical of some of the practicalities technically to obtain its goals. There are better ways. Kalmbach should investigate that.
The constant refreshing of the same graphics slows down the forum delivery and reception of information.
