Foster Farms to PLA

I saw an ALCO switcher in Foster Farms paint sitting on FRRX 600430 (6 axle flatcar) with a banner on it that had “Owned and operated by Pacific Locomotive Association, operator of Niles Canyon Railroad” (I think) on the banner.

I think this might be the switcher from Foster Farms/Foster Commodities closed Burrell, CA feed mill. I will have to check my pictures to be sure.

I noticed that FRRX is not in the National Railway Historical Socity’s list. Although I doubt it, I cannot help but wonder if it could be for the Feather River Rail Society.

ericsp,

Yes, the HD flat is owned by the Portola Railroad Museum. In May there was a special operated out of Portola, California that went down into the flat lands of California. There was an exchange of equipment between the PRM, PLA and Bay Area Electric Railroad Association. The flat was left down there so the Foster Farms loco could be moved to the PLA at Niles Canyon.

BTW - ericsp, would enjoy it if you’d visit and join the new PRM railroad forum at:
http://wplives.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi You’ll find Chad T and Espeefoamer there along with me. Please consider this a personal invitation.

I will consider it. I have been thinking about joining a couple of Yahoo groups also (Rail/citrus and freight cars) but it seem I do not have that much spare time that there would a point in joining.

Well, we’d sure enjoy having you post from time to time on the PRM board, which has sections devoted to Class 1s, and Shortlines. Also, have been a member of the citurs group. I think it would be time well spent by you. I also think you’d be an asset to that mailing group.

BTW - do you have Norman E. Anderson’s Diesel Era (Volume 6 No. 4) article titled “MK Rail 1994 Review.” It has great coverage of the 133 unit SP order for the SD40M-2s?
