I was at my local Hobby Lobby yesterday to buy some weathering supplies and thought I might find a cheaper alternative to Dullcote. And did I ever! I bought a 11 oz can of Tree House Studios Clear Acrylic Matte Coating. Not only does it kill the plasticy shine like Dullcote, it also seals chalk weathering without making any of it disappear. The only downside to this stuff are the fumes.
I’ll have to check if my LHS has it, I’ll also have to change my approach to weathering.
I discovered one of those, DullCote replacements, some years ago. Worked great EXCEPT it made the decals go all crinkly. May I suggest you coat a test decal on a bit of scrap before spraying a real model?
Great find! I’m going to try some of this. I really hate when that nice chaulk look, disappears with dullcoat.
looks like they carry at hobby lobby
