Hiding in a drawer that I hadn’t looked in for about 20 years or so, I found an envelope containing the following:
One Model Railroader issue dated February 1946, and one dated June of 1946 (with a 25 cents price on each one!) Both in really good shape. Two (each) of “Instructions for Assembling and Operating Lionel Trains”, both dated 1940, both in excellent condition. One WM K. Walthers “O Gauge Catalogue” dated July, 1941, in EXCELLENT condition, and one Lionel Trains and Accessories Catalog dated August, 1939, also in really good condition. My question is, are these books worth much, and how could I find out? I’m not into O Gauge stuff, so I’m not much into keeping them myself. So, any ideas on the best way to find out their value? Thanks,
Mike
Railpub sells old Model Railroaders - $5 for the late 40’s. But I have seen them at train shows for 50 cents or a dollar… You might list this entry on the Classic Toy Trains forum for the others.
Good luck

Thi site is good for finding books and magazines offered on the net by bookstores worldwide:
http://www.bookfinder.com/
One seller wants $15.00 + $4.00 shipping for the Feb 1946 Model Ralroader.
It’s a great site to locate out of print books, many at reasonable or even bargain prices. I got a copy of Time-Saver Standards, A Handbook for Architectural Design, 4th edition 1966, for less than $10.00 including shipping. It has over 1200 pages of information to aid Architects in building and site planning/design, much of the information is useful for modelers. ( bought it to repace a copy I gave away about 25 years ago)
However, prices listed by book sellers vary greatly. I have found some books listed from below $10.00 to over $1,000.00 and some sellers list higher than retail for books that are still in print and available at retail or less.
Interestly, It appears that most of the time the best prices are from sellers on Amazon.com, when a book is available through them.
