Thanks for posting this. That’s my LHS too, and Wiley is a heckuva nice guy.
Joel
Thanks for sharing, Brent. I stopped my delivery of the overly liberal (excuse me, PROGRESSIVE) SunBurn back in December. Glad to see Purkeys is doin’ well. You shall have to take me there one day…
Joel,
Yes Purkey’s is a great place. Have you had the pleasure of eating at the station?
Sounds like a plan Fife!
You’ll thoroughly enjoy Wiley and Tom! Maybe Chris will be there too… (I think that is his name. He works there mostly during the busy season).
Sounds like a great Hobby Shop !! Enjoyed reading that article & wonder if you have seen the Little Sykes Railway children’s ride ? !! Are there any pictures of that or web-site ? !! That hobby shop reminds me of some of the old ones we used to have years ago !!
Thanks, John
I live in upstate New York, so regular visits to Purkey’s are not in the cards for me, but this article certainly makes me wish I could visit. The article is so well writen (for what it is) that I printed it out to give to my wife to read. I realize with me being retired (medical) and “under foot” all day, her tolerance for my passion is beginning to waver. I don’t think she gets the point. Something in this article connects with me and maybe it will help her see a little better why I am so enthused with model trains (especially O gauge).
Thanks for posting the article and many thanks to Wiley for creating the little island in such a crazy world! I’ll get to Sykesville…one day!
sounds like a great place, way better then i got here. thanks for posting that!
John,
No I have not seen it. [:(] When I stop in I am usually on a mission and then I start talking with Wiley and he shows me something he got in and I start staring at the little gems… one day I will make it by the LSRR and see what it is all about. The LSRR only runs on Saturdays and I’m not typically in that part of town on Saturday. I do have to make a point to get there someday… maybe in the next few weeks.
here is their website… the info on the store is what made me stop in - I had to see it!
Wow Brent !! I found the little train on that web’site !! Thanks, & if you get there someday, I hope you get more pictures !! Let us know how far apart the rails are if you can. It looks like it might be 7 inch like our little trains near me !! I wonder if has a gasoline engine or what in it !!
B & O, TOO !!

Thanks a lot !! John
That is a pretty good read.
