Four Buck Trucks, Wally World

Found these this morning and thought I would share my find.

Both truck tractors were $3.99 each, great detail and are HO scale.(trailers were off my TOF flats).

They are not marked to any scale however they measure up pretty decent for the cost.

There is a Black box, made by Malibu International and marked for kids over 8 years old, sooo seee ya Im gaona go play.LOL and giggled a bit while I wrote out the chack., John

Hello John,

Question…Are the cabs and sleeper part separate ? Reason being I need to scratch build a tri-axle tractor for a super low-by in HO. I figure get rid of the sleeper and add the tri-axle is what I need.

Sweet looking tractors… are they both freightliners ?

I got a few very similar to those 25 years ago for 99cents each. I should repaint the containers one of these days. I’m going to search the toys at Wallymart better from now on. I’ve only been getting Pool and BABY stuff lately.

I’m no expert, but I think the yellow one is a Freightliner and the purple/maroon one is a Kenworth. [;)]

Hi Patrick…Sorry the cab is one piece, die cast metal and they are HO scale.

Hedward…Good looking crew you got there. I was blessed with another grandchild a few weeks ago. What is really grand about being a Grand parent…is that I can hand them back directley into my kids arms, when they get to smelling kinda funny…and I enjoy doing that, very,…very,…much !!! LOL…

Not too sure about the make. The yellow one reminds me of a Western Star that used the old Auto Car cab…but it also kinda looks like an older wide nose pete, compared to what I seen at my LHS they are a steal, as both are highley detailed… John

They look like the trucks sold in Germany under the Schuco and some other names. Not bad (and definitely better value than the more expensive Italeri trucks), but can be made better with some work. If you want a nice model, tear it down and strip the paint. A lighter paint job will not only look better, it will expose some detail in the tooling.

Too bad no one has imported the Edocar Kenworth W900L. That’s easily the nicest of the diecast models.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder why everyone is so excited over these diecast pieces when actual injection-molded plastic scale models are available for literally just a few bucks more. An unpainted GMC General short chassis with tandem axles is $6.50, as is a “Pete” conventional cab with the same specs. There are other tractors in the same price range. A gorgeous Ford Aeromax runs about $8.50 and even something special like a Mack CH613 with removable sleeper and tag axle is just $9.95. Painted models are a buck more. You also get the mirrors, separate horns, opening hoods and other things. You can order these direct from Walthers, Promotex Online or your LHS can get them for you instead of wasting time and burning three-buck gas running all over to Wally Worlds hoping to find products that aren’t as nice.

You guys just make me sick! I have looked at Wally World every time I go to Lawton and cannot find anything in HO scale except for the Malibu cars and I have got about all of them. I did find a front loader at WM that was supposed to be HO but is a bit large but not bad. I have found some Matchbox 18 wheelers that are small for matchbox, about HO scale in the small Alco store in Frederick for $2.99 and have bought all they have. The detail is not much but I have re-worked them to look better. Maybe someday WM will have them in Okla. I will be going to WM today on busisness again, and will look some more. Wish me luck. Mike

The trucks are Internationals and the cab and sleeper are one piece. I just picked up two Norscot Construction Minis for 1.67 each a Cat 906 wheeled front loader and a Cat 420E Backhoe both of which are 1/87

The yellow truck is a Peterbilt 379 and the mauve colored truck is a Kenworth W900 model.

I just picked up 3 trucks about 2 hours ago at local Walmart. They are nice and appear to be 1/87 scale or darn close. The sleeper cabs are huge but I have seem some that look about that size. I also picked up 2 Ford vans and 1 Dodge van, plus they had some nice nascar cars all in 1/87 scale! I don’t really like to shop at Walmart but I went there to find these trucks and hit the mother lode! [:)] Jim

NASCAR cars in 1/87? Who makes these?

They are made by Winner’s Circle. They make 1/64th, 1/18th, 1/24th, and now 1/87th scale vehicles, all of which are NASCAR related. They sell those cars to kids, so they couldn’t put “Budweiser” or “Coors” all over the hood of any of them, so they just put that particular driver’s name all over it where the beer names used to be. The good news is, they left all the other driver’s cars alone! [:P]

I got the #16,#17,#19 cars but could not make myself buy the #24 car as my son would kil me! They are really neat. I thought about using them at a car show or some kind of dealer showroom display.[:)] Jim

I have bought norscot HO scale construction vehicles (same quality as the normal ones) for $4 and change. Right now all I bought was a loader.

EDIT: Also look for matchbox smaller scale items. Some of their stuff is size 1:64, some is up to 1:100. Look for the scale on the bottom of the vehicle. Also look for walmarts kid connection line. They have some unique items such as this made by maisto:

Also I have seen boley excavators and equipment stuffed inside big red playset boxes. Look for them, big red, clear front and have a cheap building and boley construction stuff.

Yesterday I was in Lawton and went to both WMs and K Mart, the only thing I found was a Cat track hoe and 2 Malibe cars with camping trailers. One was a white Jag (pulling a camper trailer?) and a '55 Chevy with a camper. I bought all they had. Just my luck. Here are a couple of pics.

I did a little weathering on the track hoe

I do not think I will weather the Jag.

Racing Champions Inc. They make alot of NASCAR diecasts in 1:64, 1:24, and 1:18 scale too. That’s the first time I’ve seen them doing any in 1:87.

dropped into Wally’s myself , got two International semi cabs, a 5 pack of malibu cars, vw bus , vw beetle, mercedes , porshe, and a Karman ghia. All in a single 5 pack, never seen those before. Plus the no 24 1/87th nascar. Go Jeff !!!

I didn’t think that Racing Champions was making NASCAR diecasts in 2006. I have been collecting NASCAR diecast for about 10 years now and I have yet to see the 1:87 cars here in Arkansas yet. I will keep and eye out though. I actually have a NASCAR collectable shop on my layout.

I have searched since December and could find none of the things everyone had been talking about until last weekend. Then I hit the jackpot. The vehicles were not on the normal die-cast car row but over in a special “clearance isle”. Cases and cases of them. In addition to the 1/87 CATS, 1955 Chevy’s, VW bugs, etc., I even got a fleet of 1:44 WWII tanks. Not quite enough for the battle of the bulge but more than few living room floor battles.

So don’t just look where they “should” be. Seek out the clearance area.

I dropped into Wally World yesterday after seeing a post about the 1/87 scale cars now in the “Discounted” pile. Where they used to have at least 10-12 cars minimum, I only found one T-Bird with a small travel trailer and 4 John Deer tractors in 1/87 scale. I didn’t see any of the trucks as posted here. As pointed out earlier, it looks like Wally World is running out of the Malibu cars. I wish I had bought more when they were available. At least I was able to pickup 80 cars.
