Fourth Illinois Where-is-it?

Here’s one that could Stump Dale!!!

This one is very tough, I will be amazed if anyone gets it:

The Question:

This Company was chartered in March of 1869, as a narrow gauge railroad. The line started in Danville, and went south. The line never made it to Danvile, and just scratched Southern IL. Northern Terminus: Sidell,IL Southern Terminus: Olney,IL where a connection was made with the Illinois Central

None of the former RoW still exsist(to my knowledge) and last operations occured on December 24, 1938.

The line had many names over the years, but Im looking for the first name of it

Good Luck!!!

Did it start with a D ?

yes

The thing that is hanging me up is C.Delmar said about the original name, and from the info I found I can’t tell if it is the first name of the company.

Are the initials DOOR?

I got two of these IL trivia deals because I knew them without looking them up. The one where “Mendota” was the answer was a little embarrassing as I grew up about 15 miles from there. Not sure about this 4th one here, kinda cheated by using a search engine anyway…

Danville, Olney and Ohio River ?

The initals are indeed DOOR. Search Engines are Okay in my book!!

DING DING DING

It is the Danville,Olney and Ohio River!!

I am really impressed that someone knew this!

Do you know much of the history of the line ? Did the PD&E buy the entire line up to Sidell ?

My 1928 Handy Railroad Atlas shows the Kansas and Sidell between Kansas and Sidell, which I think might have been owned by the B&O. From Kansas to Casey is listed as W (Westfield RR ?) and the rest is shown as abandoned.

Found that name in some info, but could not be sure if that was correct or not. Hey Delmar…was the Kansas and Sidell one of the names of this RR later on after the DOOR?

I got out a 1928 RR Atlas and part of this line was marked “WK&S” and another part was marked “K&S” and neither one was in the abbreviation key.

My main souce of info on the line:

Once there, go to page 6

I grew up 7 miles north of Olney. The abandoned right of way ran thru a garden my dad “leased” from the IC for $5 for 5 years. I remember he told me of the railroad that used to run thru there, in fact from time to time he would hit a remnant of the railroad with his tiller.

There is a website and a Yahoo group devoted to the PD&E which has info on this line.
