FRA launches safety review of New York & Atlantic

Nice to have an experienced, knowledgeable railroader, with no political ties, in charge of the FRA.

NY&A operate on Long Island RR (MTA) so who is really responsible for crossing gate operation?

Except for the Bay Ridge and Lower Montauk branches, NY&A shares with LI on LI owned and maintained track. Is this part of MTA’s continuing plan to get out of the freight business?

It’s a long island rr right of way . it’s the lirr responsibility for maintenance of all grade crossings

I don’t think it’s LIRR any more. What was once referred to as the Lower Montauk was completely turned over to NY&A as the LIRR runs no trains over it since about 3 years ago.
