FRA: most railroads will miss PTC deadline

Who issued this from the FRA…Captain Obvious perhaps??

So now what? Do all the railroads stop running trains after the deadline and refuse freight? Do they run the trains anyway and pay the fines? Inquiring minds want to know. What is really going to happen on New years day of 2016?

The railroads should have been allowed to implement PTC at their discretion.

So after PTC Is implemented, there will be no more collisions, no more overspend derailments, no more work zone incursions and no more wrong track collisions?

Sounds too good to be true?

Who pays if the system doesn’t deliver its promises?

“Significant assistance”–by the numbers above, I see barely $2 billion for something estimated to cost over $20 billion–not exactly "significant ".

Can’t the President , with the stroke of a pen, make this all go away or at the least, postpone it’s total implementation indefinitely ? I think it’s referred to as " Executive Order " !!

The deadline never seemed realistic to me in the first place, given the scale of the work. But that’s an old story, isn’t it?

Positive Bus Control

ROBERT KLIPPEL-He could, but it doesn’t help the Democratic party gain new votes.

Why not just put in ATC. It’s been around for ever, can’t be hacked. Is a simple system that short lines might be able to afford for their locomotive when they come in on track age rights of class 1 railroads. UP, CSX and NS engines have ATC in their cabs all ready. Most importantly it works

And once PTC is fully installed will all accidents go away? No. Because it is all reliant upon a system that requires that everything is operating 100% of the time and everything was programed proplerly. I spent years flying all over North America working on communications , data , fiber optics , microwave and often had to chase hardware , software and firmware troubles. There is zero likelyhood that the entire system will be operating at 100% and 75% is more likely to be the norm. The biggest trouble is power and grounding and sags , surges and spikes will mess up computers and communications and create off the wall troubles that are hard to find.

PTC - Prohibitve Train Control.

I was hoping to see what railroads, if any, will have PTC fully implemented on time. Are there any?

JESSE L HARRUP JR. - I think you might have meant the DemocRAT party !
