Frackville Mall display layout closed to public for month of August for maintenance

Just a notice so someone doesn’t make a wasted trip. Our display layout will not be open for public display on Sundays during the month of August. We are closing for maintenance, to fix some DCS gremlins among other things, and 2 members have family vacations. Besides the visitors and donations have been real slow with Summer and Gas prices. We will re-open to the public on our regular Sundays noon-5pm in September. Thank you, Dave

PS if you think you’ll be in the area on a Wednesday evening and want to see it, drop me an email as we should be in there working

Dave,

Have you guys seen a drop in visitation? Our out of town visitors seem to be about the same as usual and our international visitation seems to be up a bit. What I find to be amazing is the tremendous increase in locals coming by to visit. I guess the high fuel prices and weak dollar is having an impact on a lot of people’s travel plans.

Instead of a “vacation” some are having a “staycation”, staying home and visiting local attractions.

We have seen a drop in visitors and a definite drop in donations. We are currently getting only 25% of the usual donations on public days. Our area is and has been a depressed financially area for a long time. The area was a big coal producing area up until the 50’s. It is now kind of a rustbelt type area. The biggest employers are several State Prisons. we are off a large Interstate so reduced travel hurts us. Besides upgrading the layout it is my task to market via a Website, Flyers, and maybe a blog. We have non of the above at this time. So I got to pony up to the PC and get marketing. We rely heavily on donations since there is only so much 3-5 club members can put in themselves. Thanks for your reply. Dave NSHR’s

BTW did your layout sustain any damage from the quake. I was in LA during Jan-Feb 1990 I think and we had a quake. I was on a 6th floor of a hospital and it was a roller but the ceiling tiles fell out, and the chair I was sitting in danced across the floor. I was glad I got to experience it while I was there, gave me some idea what you go through.

I was running that day and we didn’t even feel it, but my wife said our house got quite a rock & roll out of it.
