Hello all
I am a construction manager on a construction site in Northern Virginia. If you live near or can travel here from time to time we have extra material such as framing lumber,1/2" OSB and tongue and groove plywood, interior trim, flat exterior trim, windows, some exterior doors etc…If you can use some of this I am willing to give it away-- however you have to pick it up, load and secure it.
This saves us from having to load it into a dumpster and paying by the pound to haul it to the dump. If you do wish to get on a contact list for the free building materials I will need your cell number and an email address. You can PM me these if interested.
I will take a picture of the items and either email or text photos so you decide if you want the items.
I cannot accept any money for this. It will be free and to only Modelers for modelers to use in the hobby. Otherwise it will be donated to a church group.

I’m several thousand miles outside of your local area, so I won’t be taking advantage of your offer. It does bring up a point.
It’s well worthwhile to form a friendly relationship with the people who are building in your area. In the past I was given permission to take anything I wanted out of the stream bound for the dumpster - everything from surplus studs to communications cable. Quite a bit is going into my present layout, at a saving of $$$.
For construction managers, it’s a win - win. They save the cost of disposal, they build goodwill - and things that might have been buried in a landfill will now be buried under the foam, plaster and ground foam of the XYZ (model) railroad.
A tip of my hat to you, and heartfelt thanks.

LION has gotten material just by dumpster diving at a work site.
Ask first. They may even give you material before breaking it up to fit in the dumpster.

Thanks for the generous offer. I never thought about asking a construction company for resources but I am all set and live in NOVA. There are plenty of opportunities to obtain free stuff from places.
Do it here and they will have you arrested. No dumpster diving here and no asking for it either. I know I tried.
Here, dumpster diving is not illegal, but some people dislike you doing it. It just depends on who you ask, and what you are using it for.

This will not be dumpster diving. To dangerous. The material when available will be stacked and stored neatly ready for pick up.

YGW, I live and work in NoVA as well but have wrapped up construction on my 10x18’ basement layout. I hope in a few years I can move to a place with a little more layout space and then I will be all too glad to take you up on the offer!
